Dealer warranty is coming to an end and the bill is come in from "mondial", VW and Audi's warranty people. Which is £300 per annum. Steep (but cheap in comparison to their prices for 4*4 at £1600). According to the VW website you now get "home" roadside assistance, which was previously not included.

Before i sign the cheque. I was wondering what experiences people have with the VW warranty.

I never took this up, thought it was a waste of money tbh

I figure anything else major thats gonna happen is probably gonna be my own fault lol

Mine is about to run out as well, I had all names component cover when I bought it, but now I can only have named component cover because of the age.

After reading the book though it still seems worth while, so I might take it up, at least that way if something goes wrong under the bonnet, I should be covered.

mine run out and i did not extend it and since i've had some work done that would have been warranty and the total price was in excess of £400 - so extending the warranty would have paid for it self

It does not say this on the website. It just says that parts are covered, but mentions specifically that the engine is subject to natural wear and this cannot be covered.

"The car's performance gradually reduces as its age and mileage increases. This includes, but is not limited to, gradual loss of engine compression requiring the repair of valves or rings and gradual increase in oil consumption due to normal operating functions. This Warranty will not pay for deterioration of this type."

So if steering joints, driveshafts, gears wear down, they will not be replaced ?

Notice now it says "this includes but is not limited to ..then refers to engine"..

let me get this right. This then means that steering components have to wear down till they break. A major cause of accidents.

The VW Warranty is a complete farce. I've had 2 extended warranties on VWs in the past and they are not worth the paper they are written on. Nothing seems to be covered and if it is they get out of it using the `fair wear and tear' policy. Mine runs out end of this month and have been quoted £560 to renew with VW or £250 with warrantydirect.co.uk. Best bet is to put the cash you would spend into an account and use it if anything major needs doing.

Would be interested on any feedback regarding warrantydirect.co.uk

I had a years warranty included when I bought my car used, but I would have paid for it if it wasn't included. In my case it was worth having as I had a major problem with water leaks, that would have cost me hundreds if it wasn't covered by the warranty..

i just signed for the VW warranty after researching warranty direct against mondial (VW audi warranty). Mondial gave me all components cover and VW breakdown assistance for £267. For warranty direct to cover all components would cost £360 and I would still need another £100 for breakdown. Also with warranty direct i hear that they arent too sympathetic if your part is not on their covered parts list, and with cars these days that can be all kinds of stuff. YOu really need to know your vehicle inside out with warranty direct at a deeply mechanical level to figure out what kind of scenarios their cover is good for.

With VW at least with all components you can expect some kind of comeback on any aspect of the car, where as warranty direct is more suited to someone who will deal with small repairs themselves. Taking breakdown cover out, £167 isnt a lot for an all components mechanical breakdown warranty. At least if i do break down the car will be sorted, even if the dealer lets it peter out to get to that point. I had to get two rear split bushes replaced last year, done by warranty which paid for itself.

Payout depends on the dealer. I was with Arnold clark, who just seem to pen in warranty repairs without consulting the warranty guys.

Clark who have a reputation for being shady, are probably quite happy to be cavalier with allowing VW warranty claims, (the reverse applies for their own warranty) as it pull them in some revenue.

I now love VW warranty, I've just had a window regulator and something else replaced for free (would have cost £315), I know that's what warranty does but the best thing about it is that mine runs out today.

If anything major goes after the warranty has ended it's always worth calling VW customer service.

My air con failed due to a split pipe and was quoted £400 to fix it, after moaning to VW that it was a design fault I only have to pay £80 now. It was 4 months out of warranty at the time.

i have had a few things done to my car...and if i didnt have warranty it would suck
