9n facelift - likely to happen? UPDATE: Coming May 2005!

Found this photo off that dutch site that's been *very* accurate with its photoshops of concepts and pre-production models:

Do we think this is likely?
What do we think of it?

I can see how they're trying to make it look like the Golf MK5, but I'd be *really* surprised if VW felt a Polo facelift was needed this early in the 9n's life.

What's your opinion?

I can see the following changes:
- chrome rubbing strips
- lower valance "angled" per Golf mk5
- area behind reg plate per Golf mk5 GTI (although chromed, rather than black -- polo 9n GTI (but with 5drs and those wheels??))
- indicators on wing mirrors
- fewer front grille slats
- suspension's also well dropped

Deek

they did it with the 6n/6n2. what we could have here is the 9n2, which would then lead on to the GTi. thats if VW follow what they did with the previous generation...

What's interesting is that all the changes are "in the plastic", rather than "in the metal" -- one of the tricks manufacturers use to quickly and cheaply revise a model -- it's much cheeper to retool plastic moulds than metal ones.

Deek.

The 9n has been availiable for two years now, perhaps this was a proposal photo/idea 'leaked' out?

I doubt it would be another 6N2, your taking MAJOR revisions for that.

Are you sure this couldn't just be an aftermarket bumper that's been made to look like the MK5 Golf GTI?

I'm thinking that the GTI (if/when it's released) will have a bumper that looks like that.

I couldn't see why, after just over 18 months, VW would want to facelift it. It still looks fresh today! It's normally 4-5 years into production when they will facelift a car.

If you look the previous golf, there is no reason to think the polo will be face-lifted.
The Golf was launched in 98 and no substantial changes were made till 2003. I think VW will do the same with the Polo.

cant see why not, the Golf GTi and the Skoda Fabia vRS are both 5drs.

I think this may be a special model (like the the Polo Fun), but to be fair when have VW done ANYTHING expected?

Don't know about that new front bumper though - it makes the car look 'heavy' infront, compared to the rest of the car - kinda looses it's shape don't u guys think?
