My Breather Filter is screwed already!

I got the BMC on last night finally. We had to force a copper tube in between the crankcase breather and the breather filter, then we tightened each end with jubilee clips. Finally we tie-wrapped it to the piping (as it was the only secure place).
Now driving it was rattling, so I checked twice and it was still secure and in place. We opened the bonnet later on today to find the breather filter had fallen off. On closer inspection, it had snapped off right after the point where it was secured to the copper pipe by a jubilee clip. We also found a huge dent in the filter. Pictures are below:
What has caused this exactly? Have I done anything wrong? Looks like I'll need a new filter, so can anyone recommened one that fits directly onto the crankcase breather tube without any pikey engineering methods. That's £15 down the pan already and I've not had it on 24 hours. Just now I'm using kitchen tissue as a breather filter!

How the feck has that happened?
Is that red pipe bit behind and below the filter in the first pic a strut brace? As you've seen from my pics in your first thread, Dan suggested we secure my breather filter down behind the BMC filter, secured using a cable-tie onto a nearby hose. With the strut brace in position that doesn't look possible

Yeah that's the strut brace. Richard has drilled a hole in his rubber seal and put a tie wrap through that to secure it. I don't know what to do anymore

Id say youve definately overtightend the clip, youve got to be carefull of this with jubilee clips on plastic.
Tightening it could of caused a fine crack all the way round, and then with the engine vibration and heat it's probably bit the dust.

Mine fell off a couple of weeks ago and wedged itself down by the bulkhead, causing the whole front end of the car to vibrate like mad. Thought something was about to go bang. I have mine currently lashed to the strut brace with some foam around it.
Looks like that copper pipe might be too big a diameter, or the jubilee clip was overtight.

I think with it vibrating on the strut brace and the temp from the engine has made it break easy!! Now if i was you i'd take the Bmc off and relocate the breather lower down the pipe, this means cutting the oil pipe but it would work well!!
It needs to be free enough to move with the engine but secure enough not to come off and get damaged!!
I'd buy a cotton green one as these lil buggers seem bomb proof!

I dont have a filter on mine ive recirculated the oil feed back into the throttle body!!

How'd you do that? To be honest I'd rather do something like that rather than put on a breather filter that falls off and lets out fumes

I think the K&N one connects to the filter. I wish the BMC took the breather filter into consideration

i was looking at the breather filters and you appear to get different sizes, does anyone know what size is the best?

It might causes by engine vibration,also there seems a tight space,
try not to tie them up with the duct next time, cause when the engine
rocking and forcing the whole thing against the firewall,that's how
it breaks.
install a catch can instead, mine one is DIY ,cost about 3 pounds,
no more bad smell.
