hi guys,

i remember on here ages ago someone posted the site where you could put a registration number in and it would tell you how many owners the car had, wether it was on the road etc.

i've been lookign around but the AA and the RAC all charge for their checks, i'm not interested in checking outstanding finance etc, just owners etc, i know you can do it for free cos i remember checking a few years back, any ideas guys?

thanks

The RAC website will tell you information on a car's number of previous owners, and date of last ownership change, both of these values are drawn from the DVLA records. If you pay £24.99  you can get a full-on HPI® check done but thats rather extreme unless its a vehicle you intend to purchase :)

IIRC the DVLA website for these kind of checks is something like http://www.vehiclelicence.gov.uk/EvlPortalApp but the website is currently reporting as "unavailable due to essential maintenance". On this site though you get the above information on number of owners, vehicle type etc but also the status of the vehicle (eg. Tax renewal date, or SORN status).
