Throttle body cleaning

I've had an ongoing problem with the engine cutting out from Aug 05 when i first got it. It's been into the Vw Stealers on many occasions to cure this but i'm still putting up with it. Vw Uk are aware of it but because the ECU memory does not log a fault, they will no longer pay for any work to cure it, there's no fault as far as they are concerned ! I must be imagining it then.
Anyway, i've given up on them, the trouble is it's cutting out more often now, i do get some warning when it's going to happen, the engine runs lumpy (more than usual) I want to clean the throttle body myself, Vw wont even do that, no fault shown, so therefore who will pay for the work they say !
I've searched the site but there wasn't many posts with regard to actually cleaning the Throttle Body. I dont even know where it is, if anyone could give me any info i'd much appreciate it.
Thank you.

If you remove your top engine cover/airbox you will see that a round lip under the airbox is mounted snuggly ontop of the raised round cylinder type thing - Thats the throttle opening.
Get someone to sit inside and rev your car so that the throttle is partially open/enough for you to spray carb cleaner in there.
Have you had a look at your sparkplugs/coilpacks? - lumpiness may be more related to a cylinder misfiring?!?

I had a coil go down virtually as soon as i got it, Vw replaced all 3 F.O.C.
I've not considered the leads or plugs, i thought The Throttle Body was another common problem worth looking first, thanks for pointing that out definatley worth looking at. Is there any particular Carb cleaner i should look for ?
Thanks for the reply.

Sorry forgot to mention that the ECU software had been updated and all parameters reset on it's first visit back into the dealers back in Aug 05.
It could just be a coincidence but it has cut-out quite a few times while the steering is on or near full-lock, i dont know wether it is contributing to it or not. It's just had a full VW service back in August which has made no difference to the problem. Vw also changed a collapsed Vac pipe months ago, again no change.
I've not got much confidence in the car now, seems i'll have to take out another year with VW Assistance.......just in case !
Thank you.

Thanks AK, thats what i've just got from Halfords, I've sprayed it today so we'll see how it goes. Didn't see anything smoke wise from the exhaust, but it might be running a little better, can't make my mind up yet !
Thanks all for the help.
