Found out the source of my power loss. The pics speak for themselves:





The original piping supplied with the BMC has cracked and there is a small hole in it which will only get worse with time. Now what set-ups do all the peeps with BMC's have? I need to know what and how much to buy of tubing or whatever, and where to get it

I had exactly the same thing happen to me the other day. The piping was slowly getting worse, then i felt that the car had lost a bit of ooomph, checked under the bonnet and there was a massive rip in the piping where its stressed going round the bend!

I had been thinking of going down the samco hose route, but thats too expensive for me at the mo! So i just bought some more 69/70mm black piping at 1M length for £20 at my local motormania. It's more flexible than the stuff you get with the BMC, so should last longer. It also seems to have made it a bit louder and runs better.

While we're on the subject, how does yours go with using the original intake part from the wing (i haven't used that bit)? Did you tape up the other air feed (the small pipe)?

Thats not the cause, the cause is your still using the original intake pipe. Through it away! It restricts it really bad. Get some new ducting and go straight in to the wing. Dont buy halfrauds stuff. it rips well easy. I used two bits of turbo hose we had at work!

Mine has got 70mm brake ducting hose for a cold air feed. Much more durable than the original BMC cardboard tat

Same as vdubit, Prash showed me how to route it from the BMC through to the wing, its a sinlge section of piping. Works really well!

Yeah that's right. Was gonna bother with proper hoses and stuff later but it seems I need to do it as a priority now

I noticed it cracking couple of weeks ago, thought it was paint, didn't realise it was bloody cardboard!

Si you got any pics of it? Did you feed it down towards the wing on the drivers or passengers side? (I noticed some have done it the latter way but it looks awkward) A single piece would be a lot less of a nightmare, plus £40 is fine as long as I get my slight power gain rather than my slight power loss (which is around 1 sec slower to 60 and also a noticable decrease in acceleration through the gears)

It is fed to the driver's side wing and the end of the piping sits where the original air intake used to be. Not sure how long the section of hose is so I'll try and get a measurement on it too should I get chance

Cool cool. How did you get it to attach down there? I take it the other end going onto the filter uses a jubilee clip as before

Yup, jubilee clip on the filter end, the other end in the wing just sits nicely in place - I check it every now and again but so far so good, it hasn't budged yet

Try the Ducting that Simons on about dude, if that fails try the samco route with 90 degree and straight bits of silicone hose and joiners where needed.

Also try persley or any scrappy dude for a plastic intake pipe with a flex bit in it, and around the correct size as the joiners you'd attach it to.

I got a plastic intake pipe for the wing from a Mk2 Golf. Mark 3 golfs and Vento's are the same.

Anywhere cheaper than Demon Tweeks. It's around £20 more including delivery and Vat, what a rip off!

I paid £17 for some pipe off ebay, and its really good stuff! Although it was rubbing on my brake fluid bottle and caused a tiny little hole from the material! nothing to serious and it has now been patched.

I have some pictures of mine at home that i'll post up later on when i get home from work dude.

Moynas was the best so far that I've seen

Currently trying to find Samco hoses...bloody hard to find!
