Heard back today 1st november, that the gearbox is due back from the specilist this afternoon, They confirmed it was the bearings that were worn out. Also the clutch had been hitting off the gearbox housing, and the clutch is worn out so thats getting replaced aswell now.
If your gearbox has not went yet i idvise to get it checked.

My Polo GTI also have some noise from gearbox, but beside the noise,

Mine is fine but reverse is becoming tempremental, even if you wait for the gears to spin down after disengaging first it still crunches into reverse
If it gets worse I might have my bearings done too

Still reckons 1k for it all to be fixed, and car serviced and the fault codes resolved

Well i get the car back tuesday the 7th, final total was £1078.78p
This was a gearbox rebuild, new gearbox bearings, new clutch, full diagnostics, and 50k service. At this time of year its a bit of a nightmare, but it really needed done with the amount of noise coming from the gearbox and clutch.

I think we could really do with a "sticky" thread for people to record these gearbox failures.

Both my Lupo (even when new) does it, and my Polo does it.
What you need to do it lift off the clutch, then engage it a second time.
Even the LT35s I look after do the same thing!

If your gearbox appears to be noisy then it will be the bearings. I have just had my bearings changed and the car runs loads smoother!

It was £380 for the specalist repair,£125 for the clutch ,£171 labour,£161 vat, £98 for full service ,£55 for diagnostics. the car feels like a new car now, Its back to 125bhp and you can feel it, they said it was only at 100bhp when it went in.Clutch wise and gear change wise its excellent. All the filters changed aswell , spark plugs and oil change etc. Im pleased with the job they have done

This happens with lots of cars, it comes and goes.
