Whats the best brake caliper I can get for my GTi?

What is everybody running on theirs?

Thanks in advance!

I'm still running on my standard calipers but have Pagid Fast road pads all round and also Brembo discs up front. This has improved the braking but I know of others who have upgraded to the G60 calipers, which have a bigger disc diameter and so increased braking power...

Do you know if those G60's go straight on?

The G60 caliper carriers are a direct replacment for your existing carriers and yes they fit without any modifications.

you will just need to purchase:

G60 caliper carriers
G60 (280mm) discs

You can use your existing pads as they are the same size as G60 ones.

That sounds excellent. Where can I get some cheap?

For Caliper carriers, you can try VAGParts on this forum who will be able to give you a decent price for a new pair. Or you could try a VW breaker/scrap yard to see if they have any avaliable.

As for discs, all depends on what you want really. If you just want to go with standard OEM 280mm discs then VAGParts or somewhere like GermanSwedishFrench.

If you want to go for cross drilled or grooved discs which I've been looking at doing primarily for looks, as the normal 280mm discs are meant to be impressive enough, then theres a huge range of choice I've found.

Is there a guide to fitting these on the forum? Brake upgrade is a definite future mod for me as mine are shocking. I drove the Mk7 today and almost went through the windscreen braking. It has discs all round...my sisters Mk6 1.2 55PS with rear drums has even better brakes!

They look right, but that seems expensive compared to the prices quoted by VAGParts.

on the last request, VAGparts quoted a price : "carriers are £39.48 each +vat"

so by the time you add a delivery charge + VAT, there isn't that much difference, but they are still slightly cheaper from VAGparts. That price was quoted back in Apr 06 though.

If you aren't desperate to do the conversion, keep an eye on E-bay and various forum classifieds. I picked up my pair of G60 carriers for £40 second hand, so quite a saving over new. They just need a clean and spraying (as will new ones anyway).

So my standard calipers will bolt straight on to the G60 carriers?

Yup, the GTi calipers are the same as the ones used on the G60. So yes they do just bolt straight on.

Or should do anyway, I'll let you know when I get round to doing it :D
