any ideas what would be needed in order to supercharge....

obviously the supercharger itself.
brackets and new belt.
custom pipe work for the intake.
standalone engine management.
thicker head gasket to lower compresion ratio.

any other things that would be needed? obviously manifold & exhasut would be useful and induction kit!

Does anyone know how much power the internals of the gti engine can take?

The engine internals are probaly good for around 180bhp before you need to change the pistons to lower the compression more to allow you to run more boost. I've seen a couple of turbo'd 1.6 running this on standard internals running around 5-6psi.

However my main worry would be that the gearbox simply can not take that kind of power it struggles with the engine standard. I personally would go out and buy an Ibiza Curpa pick up a cheap K03s turbo for it and remap it you will then have 240bhp/240lbft not as exclusive as a turbo'd GTi but it will be cheaper to do overall and more reliable.

You can pick up a good Ibiza Cupra for around 5k, same price a clean Polo GTI would fetch.

Get better bearings put in your gearbox. Job done.

You will need lower comp pistons, some headwork to make sure everything flows nice, probably some better injectors and a decent management system
