flasher switch on a mk2

hi everyone! new here though i have looked in occasionaly, anyway my problem is the headlight flasher switch on the indicator stalk has stopped working. any ideas on how easy this is to fix? or maybe its easier to change?

Is it just that the full beams won't flash,or that they don't work at all?
I know that Beetles had a headlight relay and when that went the full beams either wouldn't work or would lock on..........when you pull it back is there a click? If not it could be this.

yes the switch makes a clicking noise but it doesn't flash. my problem is that i can't flash my lights, i can switch from normal beam to high beam when lights are on but cant flash main beam when lights are switched off.
