Could be faulty temp sensor. Because a faulty one would give incorrect temp readings, telling the ECU its hot when its not. costs about £25-30.

Just read through a couple of pages of threads on here you will soon see the common problems..

Main ones,, pedal box recall, check to see if youve got a sticker on the floor of your boot,if its there it will have been done.

2. gearbox and clutch

3.cambelt tensoniors

4.Other than that just enjoy your gti!!!! i love mine even although repairs just set me back £1000 for clutch and gearbox repair and a few other bits and bobs.

There are two things to look for...
1 temperature sender-on the back of radiator
2 AC high pressure sender-this one is hiding behind right side
of front bumper.

Good luck for that.

Try VAG-parts on this forum.
Are you sure it was a relay? is that located under driver's dash?

It's a kind of risky to keep driving like this,
but as long as you can keep your temperature right, then shouldn't be
a problem.

I try number 2 I disconnected the fan turned the ignition on but did not start and see if you can hear I relay dropping in and out, , cos Ive had the same thing, but it was just water corrosion in the multiplug, oh and I ve heard that if you run the air con it turns the fan on
if thats any help,
