I'm thinking of getting some 8j 17s (205/40/17 tyres) after having sold my other 16'' wheels. just wondering, do people get any scrubbing issues on the 9N with it lowered when going over road bumps or imperfections e.t.c. If you do how low are you?

With my 16s i had my coilovers wound down with a cm of thread remaining on the front. Im wanting to wind it all the way down so that it doesnt look like a 4X4, wondering if this is feasible?

I've got a hole in my wheel arch lining from mine bein on 17's and not lowered.

Eeek , guess i should stick to 16s 40 profiles then? I don't really want too many mods, just keep it sweet so wanna avoid stuff like arch rolling, but would like 17s with 40 profiles

i had 17s on for a few days and they were 8.5J. i had to raise the front of the car from 60mm to 40mm and they still scrubbed!
couldn't live with them in the end, took them off and stuck with my 16s, and lowered the front to 70mm and now i have a hole in my arch on both sides and thats with the standard 6.5J 16s!!

lowered on 40mm springs on 215/45/17s

Cheers dude, What was scrubbage like there? My tyres would be 205/40s so assuming they will look not too big, but i'm hoping I can get the top of the tyre pretty much tucked into the arches without major scrubbing. Offset of the wheels would be ET35, and have a euro dish.

looked through the many thousands of pics i have of my car and these are the best i can find to show the offset. et38 i think this was

i did find a scrub on the front arches. there are some small screws that hold the lining in place. if you remove about 3 per arch (makes no difference at all to the lining as vw only use a min of 37 screws per piece of plastic )

lowered 50mm at the front with 17''s 205/40/17 at it scrubs slightly on full lock to the left

Also the back is 35mm and there is never any scrubbing with a full car

I personally think 17's are too big for em, but it's all down to personal preference!!

I'll stick with my 15's (lol!) and 16's when i get em on!!
I prefer mine sat on it's arse!

Yeah, I prefer smaller wheels and keeping it low too. But imo, 15s look a little bit too small, 16s are perfect - but theres not much choice in that size - especially for some dished euro wheels.

totally agree! unless the 15s have a big profile they just dont suit at all

ok, so now my TT comps are fitted I don't have a problem with scrubbing except on high speed undulations in the road - the coilovers are sitting pretty low , but can I remove the screw in the top of the outer arch and fold the tab back a little? thoughts?

other than that I have had no problems fitting the TT comps!

ive got 215/35/18 on mine lowerd 40mm it scrubs if i hit a lump/ditch in road when wheel bounces back upinto arch other than that nothing but if you wana lower your car alot stick with 16s. 17s + can be alot of hassle btw m7 cant belive how low ur car is just on 4omm drop

I had a bit of scrubbage at high speeds on my old 16s - but since winter the ride height has been raised a couple of inches but this is it on 14" alloys



Sadly there are proposed double cushion speed bumps around by area and with 16s it couldn't take them unless i crawl over them at 3-5mph. so if i lower it back to what my previous ride height was and get 17s I guess I can get some practicality back .
