Brake pad replacement.

As usual my evil polo has timed it perfectly, what with xmas round the corner.
I need to have my front pads replaced, i've only got the stock parts on at the moment, it also feels like my discs are slightly warped.
Can anyone suggest any particular brand of pads/discs ? And any idea on the total cost ?
Like i said it's the wrong time of year for this, so i'm looking to keep it
as cheap as possible.
Any suggestions welcome.

Thanks.

P.S. If i can do it myself, do i need any "special" Vw tools ?
