I've finally lowered my GTi!

Well, I've finally done it...

After owning the car for almost 1 year, I have had it lowered.

I got some H&R 35mm Sport Springs fitted at JBS Auto Designs in Chesterfield (01246 550 400 - www.jbsautodesigns.co.uk) and they are amazing!

The handling is superb and even with 4 people in the car, I've had no rubbing!

I think it looks far better too... Can you tell I'm chuffed?!?

Anyway, I'll take some better photo's when I can remember to!

Josh the car looks good.
Is it on the standard dampers and if so do you find the ride hard ?.

Nice one! Just needs a tasty set of alloys to set it off now.... 8)

On the subject, I happen to be selling my Monza's if you interested, £250, inc Falken tyres. :D

Come on Josh, you know you want to!

Right then you lot... I've washed my car, driven it to an abandoned road in the Peak District National Park (just under a "mountain" called Mam Tor) and have taken some photo's just for you!

Here they are:

Jake,

Yeah, on Standard GTi dampers... They are uprated gas filled shocks anyway, so it is a pleasent ride. MUCH better than when I lowered my MK4 on Eibachs and standard dampers. Handles like a dream, soaks up minor bumps, isn't bouncy imho, and doesn't catch on the arches even 4-up on a bumpy road!

Karl,

I like these wheels for the moment, however I would like to see what it looks like on 17"s... I might come over sometime and have a look...

Josh the pictures look great !. I'm from down south but I was up that area mountain biking last year, lovely place.
My mk4 16V is on eibach's and standard dampers, it's a bit on the harsh side. I going to probably get some Spax gas filled dampers for it shortly.

wow josh those are some amazing photos love em but the only thing about the drop (and im not certain on it) is that it might look a litle better if the front was a tad lower. i know your not on coils so you cant just play withthe platforms but i think bonrath do som lowering caps for the polo to give a little more, dont worry about rubbng cos im 70mm down at the front and youve hrd that ican get full lock but most bumps make me scrape with standard arches and 15x7 so im pretty sure that an extra 10mm (?) woldnt hurt
ps jke ive heard that spax are even harder than eibach . i run kw V2 coils and even on full hardness they arnt as hard as spax

Ash

I was thinking the same thing myself...

In the pics it looks a little bit worse cos the car is parked on a hill, but I know what you mean... The funny thing is, my Eibachs on my MK4 did the same thing: The rear was lower than the front. Very wierd!

I might look into those lowering caps

josh did you manage to kep the plastic caps on the tops of the front struts? cos to get minoff they died with the halp of a hammer and some screwdrivers, i had plans to drill ahole in them and adjust thru the hole
im not sure if the spring need to be compressed to fit the caps but i have a feling they do cos i think you remove the 3x 1mm nut at the top then the 2x 18mm nuts and bolts from the bottom, compress the spring, remove the top nut with the special tool then the top mount comes out and gets replaced unfortunatly unless your very accurate with a bottle of tipex you will need to redo the geometry :( . sfter sying all that though they might be removeablein itu but i kinda doubt it ill check tomorow
