hi
i have bought a polo that has had a new tank fitted.....but it still is leaking petrol....i have had a look underneath and i can see where he has hammered the filler neck to get the bend right....
i have a few questions
the two pipes that come of the filler neck where should they go as he has just tucked them under the handbreak cable....
is it possible that he has fractured the filler neck
do you need to buy a geniune tank to get it to fit and how much....

check the pipe that is under the rear bench, pull the seat up and unscrew the 2 screw's and check the large breather pipe that end, and then trace it through to the other, this recently leaked when I refitted my tank, thats about all I can suggest, I saw a tank for an 85-90 polo on ebay for £35 But I am sure it's only a simple problem. does it leak when the car is running? or all the time?
hope this helps

The two pipes that come from the filler neck surley these both should not just hang straight down...does one of them connect into the tank allowing you to fill with fuel and not get an airlock...if so which one and where on the tank does it go
Cheers

I would really recomend reverting to the od manual at this point, but mine is at uni. I think the thicker of the two goes to under the seat, there is one in the fillercap just above the actual entry point that goes into air, my fuel tank exploits are a bit hazy to me now, So I don't want you to screw it up becuase of me, experimaent i say.
not much use I know, sorry

On a Mk1, the two pipes on the filler neck are at slightly different heights; the lower pipe (on the "right" of the neck, i.e. towards the front of the car) connects to the top of the fuel tank beside the sender unit, whilst the upper pipe (on the "left" of the neck, i.e. towards the rear of the car) vents into the rear panel via a gravity valve.
