As much as i love the look of my 2000 GTI i hate the gearbox!!

Just had a recon box as the last one was blown into the weeds and now the new one has started whining like mad, and before long is going to go bang like the old peice of s**t. Was thinking of doing an engine conversion with my mates smashed up ibiza but thats gonna cost to much mony and im sick of spending money on this car.

VW have really let us down on this, they dont care about the issue with the boxes its a joke, my girlfriends dad had a MK2 golf from nearly new and that done 263k on the original engine and box!!

I have always drove VW cars but this polo has changed my view on them, how many saxos or 106's do you see with blown boxes and they are all thrashed to an inch of their lives, i rarely even drive my car hard!!

VW need to get their ass in gear and learn how to fix things like this once and for all as it's spoiling a good car

In my view, VW pretty much dropped the ball in the early 90's and never came back. What happened was, initially, VW production went to the seat factory in spain, and seat production went to the german VW factories.

More recently, I think, it's just the premium brands Audi, Passat, etc, being built in Germany.

Well i knew it was gonna happen and it went bang today!!

Surely there is not a factory fitted gearbox left on any polo gti, if there is you are damm lucky

Mine managed to do a whopping 957 miles since the last rebuild!!

I now hate VW and also the person who supposedly rebuilt my gearbox

im definatly with you on this one, my box is on its way out i think on 58k.....but i would never swap for a saxo or 106, firstly theyre made of tin foil and would crumple in a crash, no quality and no brand!!!!!
i will probably do a 1.8T or get a Lupo gti if i get any more probs after this.....

Is that really meant to say 957? :( I'd take it back, it MUST be under warranty & if not I'd drive over the guys foot who rebuilt it (don't know if it would teach him, or even do any good but I think it would make me feel a bit better) :)

Yep it really was 957 miles from the rebuild!!

It is under warranty the only trouble is they are not open again now till after new year, which is a pain as i was ment to be driving it to france for new year!!

Its just a right bummer having no car over the whole of christmas, went to look at the new 1.8T today and see how much it would be to get one on finance, i asked the bloke if i buy one will the gearbox last past 50K and his reply was "course it will all the boxes on our cars are very strong" even thou i was looking at part ex with my GTI. I said about the problem with the gearbox and his reply was i have never heard of it being a problem!!!

Dont think im going to bother thou, looking at getting a Seat Ibiza Cupra TDI now instead, i have lost interst in VW.

my girlfriend had a s**t 106 Ski 1.1 for her first car and we both ramped the f**k out of it we bought it for a couple of hundred quid never spent a penny on it and its still going strong!!!!

VW SORT YOUR LIVES OUT
