Hi, so on thursday evening i went to go to work and my GT wouldnt start.

It has been starting and running prefectly ever since i´ve had it for the past 2 or so weeks and suddenly it wont even fire.

Ive cleaned and dried the plugs, inside dizzy cap, and made sure all the connections in the ignition circuit and clean and a good connection.

I then removed a plug to see if there was a spark and when i took the plug out it was damp and smelt of fuel so i can only assume its getting fuel. There was a decent spark when i tested it.

I then charged the battery and cleaned both connections but still not luck.

The starter spins the engine over at normal speed but the engine wont even fire.

I then got my dad to tow me and slowly realesed the clutch with the ignition on whilst in 2ng gear. The enine started to rotate but did not fire.

The car has one of those push in key immobilisers. The light goes out when the key is pushed in and i think it only works on the starting circuit but even if it works on the ignition circuit too surely the fact that it has a spark means its functioning correctly?

I was wondering if anyone knew of a sensor that will completely stop the car from even firing. The car was working perfectly the last time I used it before it started this so I cant understand why it now wont start.

Not entirely, modern cars start then cut out if there's an immobiliser fault.

Have you checked all the plugs? Have you checked the condition of all the leads, including the king lead? Is the coil doing its job?

If it was me, these would be my main 4. My exes 106 refused to start til it had a new TDC sensor and plugs, my best mate's Golf died and we founf it was the king lead, and coil failures are common in the winter months.

Yes, i've had all the plugs out and they are all fine. Leads all look fine as well.

The thing that makes me think its not the ignition circuit is that its producing a spark. When i removed a spark plug and turned the engine over it was giving a good spark. Even if all of the other 3 leads were broken this cylinder should be firing so i am edging towards the fuel/sensor side of things. This also rules out the King lead.

Thinking about getting one of those mobile dagnostic people out as neither me or my dad, who both have a decent amount of experience with getting non starting cars started, can get it going.

Any more suggestions welcome though!

UPDATE -

So i have taken off all the earth straps(coil pack, battery and engine to body) and cleaned them and cleaned all the corrosion off. There is fuel getting to the fuel rail and there is current getting to the injectors.

I dried the inside of the dizzy with a hair drier and made sure all the contacts in the cap were clean and free from corrosion.

I took another plug out after trying to start it and again it smelt of fuel. There is still a healthy spark.

I thought there can only be one explanation left... maybe the cambelt has misteriously snapped? But nope its still there and tight.

I have come to the conclusion it is either the immobiliser or a sensor.

I am going to get a mobile diagnostics person out as i now dont know what to try.

Will let you all know what it was once i have sorted it.
