got my headlights adjusted yesterday by my local garage. They charged me £20 is that a good price. They also said they used there snap on scanner, i did not no you could use that. Any way big big big diffrence.

Probably mean a beam tester, which is the same as they'd use for an MOT.

To be honest, it's an easy enough job to diy. All you need is a wall, a tape measure and a socket/screwdriver for most cars.

£20 seems a little high for a 5 minute job, but it's probably their minimum charge.

20 isnt that bad, although with the machine they used it probably didnt take long!!

Had my xenon headlights adjusted, after lowering, at my local dealership. £26

Is it possible to do with non Xenons? Even with mine turned all the way up on the dash control they are still REALLY low

hmm. so did they not hook it up to vagcom?? or just some scanner?? i thought xenons can only be adjusted either manually (from the top) or via vagcom (vw software)

I did my myself with vag-com,there excellent now, though they might be a tad high twice ive been flashed twice by oncoming cars as if ive had my full been on although its been over a month since a did them

I've got VAG-COM, but im not sure how to adjust my xenon's with it? Could you please tell me how you do it please? Cheers mate.

When you say adjusted do you mean how far ahead of the car the beam hits the floor? So basically the angle of the beam?

Select the headlight control module and if you click on output tests, and click start it should adjust them for you

Non xenons are adjustable by a series of knobs on the back of the unit.

Mine need doing, my cars lowered 60mm and they're pointing at the ground!

The basic principle for bean alignment (according to the Haynes Joke book) is as follows.

"Position the car on a level surface with the tyres correctly inflated, approx 10m in front of, at right angles to, a wall or garage door.

Draw a horizontal line on the wall or floor at headlamp centre height. Draw a vertical line corresponding to the centre line of the car, then measure off a point either side of this, on the horizontal line, corresponding with the headlamp centres.

Switch on the main beam and check that the areas of maximum illumination coincide with the headlamp centre marks on the wall." From there, the method of adjusting varies between cars. But at this point, it's pretty intuitive, as you can see the difference your adjustments are making quite easily.

It's only indicative, but I've never had a problem passing an MOT with headlamps adjusted at home.

Use of a brick wall makes the job easier, as you can, by and large, just count bricks, rather than getting too technical.

Are you sure it did adjustment to your head light?
I don't see any motor in the head light unit,
I wonder how can it be adjusted ?

Oh yes im sure,i watched them move. It they were pointing at the ground before and there now straight ahead
