Which head unit??

I'm looking for a new headunit for my mk3. I'm not after anything ridiculously fancy or worried about whether it supports IPod etc etc.
I want one that supports MP3 and is a decent make.
I wondered if anyone who knows more than i do could advise on which head unit to get?
I like the look of this one and understand the basics so i'm pretty sure this one sounds reasonable. Just wanted a second opinion,
http://www.caraudiodirect.co.uk/alpine- ... -4764.html
I'm not going to be getting an amp and im not going to be getting a sub. Will either get some 13cm door speakers in the front and some 6x4s in the back or same in the front and 6x9s in the rear. I have run this set up in a mini, a saxo and a 205 and they all produced good enough sound for my requirements. I would have just put it all in the polash but it went with the last car so time to update.
Cheers in advance guys.

I've now found this one -

Even better i think. Expensive postage though!
What sort of sound will i get from decent 6x4 speakers?

also have a look at jvc very good nowadays for in car stuff
6x4's won't do much best bet is a set of suitable components with a small amp to drive them
don't expect bass though as the only way to get that is from a sub in an enclosure

With reference to bass, i found my old kenwood 6x9s to be really bassy! And that was with a lame sony head unit.
The kind of music i listen to doesnt need a lot of bass anyway. Thinking about putting some 6x9s in the rear but where can you put speakers in the front that are bigger than 8cm?

you will not get bass from anything other than a sub bass is below 50hz 6x9's will not play this without damaging them
subs are the only way to get bass and they need to be in an enclosure to make it sound good
if you don't know what bass is just wait a month for my build to be done

140db + @ 33hz

OK... but its a car not a hifi... I think i´l be satisfied with the sound that decent 6x9s make which apparently includes no bass.
Only thing with that head unit on ebay is the 40pounds delivery!!

you can get good mid bass from a set of components if you make sure the mids are in sealed enclosures also if you run 6x9's i assume they'll be mounted in the rear
now when you go to a concert etc where does the majority of the sound come from think about it
also browse
www.talkaudio.co.uk
you will get a little mid bass from 6x9's put them in sealed enclosures for a litttle more
but real bass is the low wobbly sound that you feel

i think you'd be better with components up front of a simple amp it'll sound alot better and if you do fancy bass a simple sub and amp combo in the rear
or you can get 6x9" subs from genesis which will be nice in small enclosures and mount on the shelf

Thats a really useful website, cheers mate!
On there he does some door pods for some speakers. I want to do this, do they door pockets come off the trim panel? They almost look like they are glued on.
