I just bought this Polo G40 yesterday, and yes I've named it Gordon (sad I know, but it makes it easier to know which Polo we're talking about - that's my excuse & I'm sticking to it :) ).

Got some pics of him in the condition he arrived, so I can track his progress:

Then I gave him a clean up (glass, polish, hoover, some nice autoglym freshner spray & washed him) and this was the result:

Now Gordon's looking like the best G40 on the block! 8) (Well IMHO anyway :? ).

I know, seem to be addicted to cars at the mo, but then the mk2 Golf aint really mine so it's not so bad  . Yeah you can, will make you smile though - I can't make up my mind if it's faster than the GTi, but it's a LOT more like a go-cart.

With a couple of minor tweaks it will most likely out-perform the GTi! Congrats 8)

I did wonder that! Think I'll be using it to drive to work most days as it's cheaper to run than the GTi and I'm really OVER protective of where I leave the GTi in Telford throughout the day.

Yeah, not sure I like the tape holder thingy, nearly took it out today but then never got round to it, it'll be one more useful cubby hole for phones, purses, lipgloss etc

hmmmm

You got any spec for the car - chassis and engine wise?

It looks clean - possibly resprayed at some stage...???

I love G40's - just remember the rev limiter is not good for charger seals...

specially if the blower hasn't had a rebuild in 60k and you put a toothed belt kit on it an hour ago as i found out -

lovely car - hope it brings you as many g-smiles as mine!

Far as I know it's all standard at the moment both engine wise and chassis. Got the full history for it from new.
Don't think I'm going to do much to this one, want to keep the OEM look. Wouldn't mind lowering it a touch but nothing major, and apart from that just re-newing anything that's a bit worn and/or battered.

Don't think it's had a re-spray, the guy who had it had it kept in a garage and polished it every week so I think that's why it looks so good!

i like the way your going with it...

standard is best for you and economy - ill bet the gti drinks a fair bit..!!!

i was thinking about a gti - but insurance is killer for a 20 yr old male!!

LOL

phil j on clubpolo can do lowring kits at various heights - for a good price!

enjoy the g smiles

I quite like the OEM look, especially on older cars :)

GTi isn't that thirsty really (especially considering the fun you get from it), it's just that we haven't got many spaces at work and I end up parking on public carparks for the whole day and I don't like leaving the GTi where I can't see her.

Can you not get a reasonable quote from Adrian Flux for the GTi (they're worth the money :D )?

Yeah might have to get in touch with philj when clubpolo is back up and running.

hmmmm

If i were you and leaving the G in a public place all day - i would put some sleeper CL badges on - and remove the front badge so pikeys dont nab that as they are quite expensive now...

not too keen on the front spoiler / lip thing either - but its your motor!

GTI's are cars i have always loved - as a friend had one when i was younger and it was aewsome - and the dials - well what can i say!

Even TT dials dont look as good IMHO!

your G is a good buy - whats the mileage?

Personally I'd be more worried leaving my G40 in town than a polo gti!

It does look very clean. Still looks to have an original number plates fitted too 8)

does look rather nice... 8)

tornado red G40's rock! :D

and keep it standard, i love the mix of my g40 with the engine mods but only subtle changes to the outside so attracts no attention :)
