Box and clutch is all you need, though whoever's fitting it may not have the m8 spline drive male bit to undo the driveshafts. You'll need a gearbox code to order the box, it'll either be etg or ffw. Probably ETG. They may not take your old one back for the surcharge for if its a different code.

Buy the bearings and do it yourself, looks to be about £50 for the bearings. I may do a rebuild guide on these when i do mine, but dunno if anyone would use it!

I was going along the lines of most people would take it to a garage and spend £700 when all it needs is a weekend and £30!

I would confirm with them if the recon box is just a 2nd hand box if it is, likely just another box that could go at anytime. If you get your bearings done on your current box it should be good for another 50k, labour costs to replace the bearings should be similair to getting the 2nd hand box. Also you could look at it if everyone gets 2nd hand boxes theres going to be none left very shortly !!

I got my current box fully rebuilt, at a cost of £360, not including labour, I asked them about a recon box but they advised that i would be better getting my re-built and bearings re-placed etc so thats what i did.

I would do that but there's nowhere close that can do it for me except for VW and I'm not going to pay £70 an hour. So I have no option to be honest.
Ah i see, thats unlucky.
