HI there, got a 6n2 polo 1.4 tdi, wondering whether anyone has had their polo chipped and whether it increases, BPH, torque, etc. Thinking of having it done. Apparently itl increase the BHP by 30 and give 30-40% more torque. Any comments? :)

i've got the same polo and the same idea too.. consulted few ppl about this and its supposed to make helluva difference! in truth really its the only performance mod u can and should do with a TDi.. this is because the throttle is controlled by the ECU, not by wire, so when u plug a computer in u can control how much poke u wanna give it! ive experienced a ride in a chipped 1.9 TDi, lets just say im thinking of sueing my mate for whiplash!?

only thing is its not cheap... if u haven't done any other mods (ie, bigger wheels, air filter upgrade, exhaust etc) then u can go for thse plug in boxes which are slightly cheaper. otherwise if like me u have.. then u'd be better off with a custom code, stage 2 is what i think they call it.. check out the JBS website!

ive investigated this with revo, planning it in the summer once ive saved up. Dont go for a tuning box off ebay in the winter, i got one and it made a difference all summer but as the weather started getting colder it would stutter and sometimes wouldnt come onto the turbo and then all of a sudden it would kick in 5 miles down the road!

The guy at my local independant VW garage said all the box does is tell the car the fuel is at 156 degrees constantly so in the colder weather it causes problems.

Revo is about 80 quid cheaper for a basic remap then superchips but superchips will do it custom for the same price. depends what mods your going for with it, filter, intercooler etc??

yea i wasn't suggesting those crappy tuning boxes off ebay, no way! but there's some proper tuning company who make boxes which don't just confuse the ECU of the temperature, but the are actually coded as a chip would be but had advantage of being easily removed for when you take it to a dealer service etc. There's company called Van Aaken Developments who specialise in TDi tuning boxes.. not sure of the spelling tho, might have to google it!

Yeah bin on that Van Aanken web site but doesnt give you any ideas of prices. Found another web site that does them and have got dealers all over the Uk that chip all types of cars.
Just click on the relevant car you have and it'll tell you the spec and what it improves by.

Improves the Polo quite abit, pricey tho!!

Superchips quote the same power increase as Revo but are about 80 quid dearer! The GTi isnt a turbo so you wouldnt get much of a gain from a remap, its only about 6-8 BHP on a standard car which isnt much for 400 quid! My mate looked into getting his done and it wasnt possible cos of the ECU on it wasnt listed, only some GTis can be done.
