im looking for a GT doner to do a swap into a mk2 breadvan, not having much luck finding one

i just wondered if any of the other non GT models shared that engine?

Pretty much so, yes.

Some CL's had a 55bhp MPI engine in (the NZ), but it's a much more docile beast than the GT's 3F engine in standard form.

The continental Mk2 GT's had a more powerful 75bhp version of version of the NZ, but they weren't fitted to RHD cars.

so hold out for a GT mk3 then? not much swapping in a 55hp lump , isn t my MH that anyway?

what money does a doner GT sell for?

There are RHD NZ engined cars out there, there were a few in Club Polo years back.

The main arguement for going to a 55hp NZ is you can do more with it. GT cam specifically.

i was hoping to do it all on the cheap, so i wouldnt have alot of cash to tune/mod it

i guess i'll be best to wait for a GT and maybe get a cheapie chip and leave it at that

id imagine 75hp in a bread van is enough?

It won't be out and out fast, because GT's aren't, but it'll be quick enough to have a good laugh with.

Tis very true. Read somewhere that they have 102Nm of torque so i guess that would have something to do with it.

After all, performance is effected by the torque curve NOT the horsepower.

just a thought ..are none of the later seat or mk4 polo engines suitable for a swap??

Not sure if the mounts are the same but you'll probably find it harder to find one for cheap. If they are the same get yourself a 1.4 16v.

The 8V 1.4 ABD on the Mk3 Golf is doable, but easier with a GT head on. There's a FAQ on www.clubpolo.co.uk about it.

I would rather hang about for a GT donnor on a tight budget to be honest. As long as it has the GT gearbox and runs well it will be crazy fast compared to the spi's or NZ's.

A big note and very important note.
Check with your insurance company before you buy the donnor.

I have a problem now where I have a whole extra car sitting on my driveway becuase my mk2 van with a 3F GT lump, fuel tank and rear acel conversion is more expensive to insure than a standard G40.
