Custom-code, is it worth it yes or no ?

Ive been enquiring into getting my ecu remapped by custom code, they e-mail me back and said they could give me an extra 14bhp with phase 1. They said they have done a few gti,s and not had any problems. If i was to get phase 2 i would have to have a performance exhaust installed and an air filter etc .

Has anyone on here had it done already?

Is there an really noticeable Difference with performance?

Just want to be really sure before i send my ecu to them to do it.

Did they tell you how much gain for phase 2??

"Phase 2 need performance exhaust installed and an air filter "
Performance exhaust can include Manifold, Centre pipe and Rear exhaust
Does it mean need all of them??

14bhp increase, that's quite good. Let us know how you get on and if your fuel bill suffers

How much does it cost for phase 1?

How can they say its phases?

I had custom code on my GTi and to be honest i saw the power increase on the rolling road printouts but never really found the car to be faster on the road SMOOTHER yes FASTER no!!

Also its not a remap its a chip!!

Thing is you wont get massive bhp from a n/a engine unless you really go to town on the engine (port, polish, lighten, cams maybe injectors or throttles) To say phase one gives you 14bhp then add an exhaust and filter you'll get more is rubbish to be honest, it aint a turbo car which you can increase by whacking the boost up !

Your best off buyin a Bmc, sports manifold, straight through exhaust with de-cat before you do anything even that will have gains!

Agree with monya's. There's no way on earth you'll get 14bhp out of a chip or remap or an n/a 1.6. Should think no more than 5/6bhp and even then you'll be lucky.

Buy a bmc, manifold, de-cat and full exhaust. Then if you like, cams and finally a remap. Should be good for 150-160bhp then.

You could do what i'm doing and strap a g lader on it, then all of the above. 220bhp anyone?

I cant help but notice this debug error is causing quite a lot of people to double/treble/quadruple post!

This is from the Custom Code website: http://www.custom-code.co.uk/index.php? ... &Itemid=72

States that for a Stage One expected chip gains would be 7-10bhp. Not 14bhp.

For a Stage Two it says between 10-20bhp.

I'm trying to keep on top of the double posts and debug errors

I agree with moynas on the basic principle too, an N/A engine is going to be tough to extract strong gains from without serious moolah!

I'd like to CC my Polo this year, after I've popped a new manifold on :)

Understand where you coming from...... but you must understand they will tell you anything to get ya money!

A custom code map WILL be good (not great) once you have some performance parts on the GTi engine!!

Trust me i tried everything to get etc bhp from my GTi spent loads!
I reseached cams but found profiles to much to make the engine run lumpy... or not gain anything! Superchargers but couldn't get my head around the compression rates etc!
Turbos would work well but its all custom bits and finding strong engine internals places to mount cooler etc!!

So i won my E38 trophy for my hard work and sold it on a high!!

Now im in the world of turbo goodness ( miss the olop ) its great fun!!

If I wanted a fair bit more power I would go with throttle bodies.

A Lupo Gti owner has done this and it is most impressive !

And the noise  !

But i'd never consider it on a car with this gearbox. [/i]
