yeah ive done a few

draw around your shelf on suitable mdf and cut it out , then attach a another strip along the front of the shelf underneath , that will allow you you to drill each side and fit a dowel or bolt for the part where it pivots

then get a thinner sheet of mdf and cut another shelf sized piece out, this time mark out the the parcel shelfs shapes and contours and cut those out, so you have a skeleton to fit on top

a good car audio place should supply a audio carpet that matches your interior , fit that with glue and staples, depending on how big the speaker holes are you may want to fit some mesh over the hole but beneath the carpet

imo its worth going the extra mile to match the colour and contour of the orig shelf as pikeys know a smooth stealth shelf has big speaker hidden under it

hmm, i was wondering if i could utilise the original shelf and add some supports underneath for the speakers. If you know what i mean. I just had a look and i noticed the carpet comes up quite easy so i might just remove the carpet, cut the holes in the shelf, fit the speakers and refit the carpet. Stealth!

wouldnt bother myself

for one the vw carpet wont allow the sound through properly...its special stuff the audio shops do, and it will sag and rattle about with the weight of the speakers

it wont take long to make a nice one, that way you keep the orig one for when you sell it or park in a pikey area

p.s. i have some alpine components in the door pockets and a fairly decent alpine head unit. There just one vital thing missing!... BASS!!!
