Does anyone know what the maximum wheel size is for a 1.2 E 2002 Polo?

I have to admit to not really knowing anything about wheels or why there are limitations

As for the maximum size that will physically fit - 18" wheels will without arch work. But on a 1.2 - I wouldn't advise anything over 16".

Well, put it this way:

I'm on 17" wheels and lowered 65mm.

So, yes, you can lower it serious amounts on 16" and a fair amount on 17"s. Not sure about 18" wheels - although I've heard of Germans running -50mm!

I ordered 15 inch wheels as standard with my 1.2 S model. I wouldn't advise going any bigger for acceleration purposes.

My way to work around them was to go lower to make them look bigger!

Well, I would do that, but the problem is that we have these silly size speed bumps all the way along the road up to the EA building where I work.. I have sat at my office window watching lots of people loosing side skirts and bumpers...

Even the Need for Speed cars made for EA at the recent Max Power convention can't come into the office because of them :/

...thats a 25-30 mil drop on VW Approved lowering springs made by Eibach which cost me £130. Speedbumps won't be a problem, just slightly harder!

You haven't actually said if you've got the car yet. If you're still ordering it - the "sports suspension" option supposedly drops it a little. I have this, but can't really see much difference, other than hardness of ride being "much" stiffer.

There's some uncertainty about whether these springs are just the Eibachs Nelson mentions, but installed at the factory. One of these days, I will park my car up next to Nelson's and get this issue sorted once and for all!

The difference between cars with the Sports suspension and those without is quite noticable. I parked up next to a E or S model in a shopping centre car park recently, the £150 or so option is well worth the money, in my opinion.

Nooo, sorry, I've had the car for well over a year now It was something that I was looking at while I was buying but then decided that I'd never really go round corners fast enough to need it

It was a case of being too sensible at the time and watching the pennies

Just noticed that vagparts do the VW springs for the polo. For your car, £110.84 + vat (+ fitting).

Part number is: 6Q0071675. Might be worth phoning your dealer to see what they would charge - I'd expect it to be considerably more!!

Although, if you;re going to be fitting 17s, then you'll probably want to drop it more than the 25-30mm that these provide...
