Squeling rear drums

Hello.

I'm hoping that someone might have experienced this before.

The rear drums are squeling big time, it feels as if the handbrake is sticking.

The handbrake cable adjusting thread under the lever was pushed through, so I tightened that, the handbrake lever is nice and tight and the thread is now being pushed back but the squeling is still there.

It has goten worse since I have taken the car off the road for the past two weeks.

The handbrake is sticking slightly as the wheels aren't moving freely, the adjuster in the cabin is fine and it would seem to need adjusting in the drums, however the drums appear to be fine, checked by a friend at Kwikfit.

Could it be something to do with the guide not being lubed properly or is there something more sinster?

The rear wheel bearings need replacing now but I don't want to change them without fixing the handbrake problem first.

id hazzard a guess its either a partly siezed wheel clyinder or a problem with the self ajuster

both are cheap and reasonbly easy to fix...best clean out and overhaul both drums and reset the hand brake when you do the bearings

hard one there

check that the brake pads haven't come loose and are rubbing against the pads. but ur safest bet really is to take it to a professional! when ur dealing with breaks u don't really wana risk anything or do anything yourself and end up making it worse, or even worse have a breaks failure when ur trundling along nicely at 60 or so!

I got often strange sounds from the rear. Sometimes they are there for for a few weeks and then go away "silently".

In the meantime, I got changed the rear wheel bearings, the rear break shoes, and adjusted myself the handbrake cable.

All this had never any influence on those mysterous sounds. I also jacked up the car and turned the wheels myself and never got the slightest clue what's going on.

As the car is still living and me, too, 8) I actually don't care anymore.
