Squeaky Rear suspension

Lately while driving around I've noticed an unhealthy squeaking sound coming from my the rear of my car while driving along. Worst thing is it's not a constant thing. Sometimes it sounds worse than others and sometimes it cant be heard at all. I'm pretty sure it's the suspension as it doesnt matter whether I'm Breaking/cornering as to whether it does it.
Just wondering if anyone else has experienced the same problem or if anyone has any ideas what the culprit could be? I cant decide whether I should get it checked out just now or whether I should leave it as I'm planning on changing my car in January / Febraury next year. It doesnt seem to be affecting the handling at all though as far as I can tell.
It wasnt making any sound when I drove my car to work earlier today either

Yes!
Mine does it too!
Especially when getting in/out of the car (and before anyone chirps in, I know I'm a bit heavy, but not that heavy!)
Tried to forget about it!
(Oh, and I've got H&R Sport Springs on mine)

Aye, that's exactly the problem. It's especially noticable on mine when I close the driver door. I've heard my mates saying it sounds louder when standing outside the car than it does when you're sitting in it aswell. I haven't made any modifications to the suspenision either so I doubt it's down to the springs you're using.
Oh well, nevermind, guess I'll just have to turn up the stereo

I have experienced/still experiencing the same squeaking sound from the rear too! Seems to be coming from the passenger side rear seat area. Cant determine what i is - initially thought it was some stuff in my boot knocking the CD changer casing unit. I did however find that the outer casing does make a slight rattling sound if something bumps into it - not sure that this is the cause of the problem though! Get that radio/CD player turned up folks!

i have a tdi. which has the disc brakes which the gti has. i would check the handbrake out. i have problems with mine sqeaking for 2yrs and now the brakes sieze up. the garage have tried 15x to fix it and vw have issued a techinal update to the brake system (dec 2003) which by the way didnt make any difference.
