Ha ha ha, cheers Andy!

To be honest Nickpolo, for the money you would need to pay, you are far better off with a Tom Tom or similar, I've had my MFD Ver. G for about two years nearly and although it does suit the interior of the car and makes it look OEM the technology is a tad dated, hence these are no longer used in the newer dubs (which use DVDs instead of CD-ROM).

It does work, but you don't get any fancy software or 3D maps and it's only as good as the CD-ROM you have (apparently 'back-ups' run a lot slower than genuine copies). Hence it can be a bit slow, it's pretty accurate but I've had some problems in the past, like being on the motorway and it deciding that you need to do a U turn for no apparant reason or telling you to go straight when there is a roundabout ahead!).

The difference from the G and D versions is minimal from what I remember, I think the output was better in the G and also it featured a better street finding function (basically, it would automatically elimate following characters if they don't exist...difficult to explain!). If the prices don't differ too much then yeah definately get the G.

If you are still thinking about it try this site...

www.satnavsystems.com

As they should offer warranty (I bought mine from here and they did honour the warranty as I had a dead pixel with the first unit...). There was some problems with the ones sold on eBay, the MkIVs forum had a number of users who paid but never received them if I remember correctly!

cheers guys,

yeh i know that they look dates in comparison with the new models on the market, but i like the way it would fit into the car's interior, just a case of money i suppose, what happens with gps, does it need a seperate aerial?

thanks

Yeah, it does, you will need to place that somewhere where it can receive the GPS signals or if you want, you can get one of those 2-in-1 aerials for the roof and wire it through.
