Update on "the seat"

My car is still in the garage for its various faults (see New Faults)
I have recieved a call from the garage saying that my car is ready to be picked up but I do have the option of waiting 7 working days for the rear passenger seat to be replaced as this part has to be ordered from Germany taking 7 working days to arrive. The other option was to pick up my car and organise another date for the seat to be raplaced. I will be getting my car back tomorrow

. This leaves me with the oddest looking seat for the next few days. Good talking point though. I see it like the cars very own party piece. if u pop the spring back into the seat and push down on the opposite rear seat the spring pops back up again. Sad

Don't want to depress you but it took the VW dealer a month to get new front seats for our Polo and then they were pinched from a new, unregistered car!
Give them a week and then insist that they stop messing you around and 'borrow' a seat from a new car.

Getting a dealer to remove the seat out of another car just because its on a week back order is a bit spiteful isn't it

A 7 day order isn't really even a back order, it just has to come from Germany.
@ Josh. Give your dealer a call about your seat base, I bet they have it. They just probably haven't gone to the trouble to tell you

A back order over a month is EXTREMELY unlikely nowadays. The only part which I have ordered this year which has been on b/o for more than four months has been a new shape A3 headlight (and this was about 6 months before it was released in the UK!)

There were actually two issues. Firstly the dealer was terrible; we found out later that the car had been sitting in their car park for two weeks waiting for a new gearbox when the gearbox had been delivered within three days of its order. Secondly the driver's seat could not be moved or tipped so it was extremely awkward when either myself or wife was driving - both of us had to compromise on the seating position. I'm 6ft and my wife is 5ft 2ins.
At the end of the month there was still no sign of the seats so the sales manager suggested the seat donation. The idea was that the replacement seats would be fitted in the new car when they arrived. There was no way the new car could be sold until the new seats were fitted. The only loser was the sales department who had to wait to sell that new car.
The bottom line (no pun intended) is that my wife and I are so fed up with the lack of reliability and a very poor dealer that we have no compunction about 'leaning on' the dealer and VW.

bertJ,
Sorry, when referred to the seat situation being spiteful I meant requesting them to remove a rear seat base out of another car so soon after the part has been placed on order.
By all means I wasn't suggesting that your situation was the same, but looking at Tornado_ally's post he's clearly happy with the service his dealer provided this time, it would've been exactly the same procedure where I work.
Again, not being rude or anything, just saying

Thanks for that, I certainly didn't take your comment as being directed at me! Don't worry about it! We only wish that we could find a decent dealer. Unfortunately one company has taken over all the dealers within a 50 mile radius of where we live.
We are almost certainly going to get rid of the car early next year despite the amount of money we'll lose. The only criteria at the moment for a replacement are reliability and a decent dealer. It rather looks like a Honda Jazz or Toyota Yaris will replace the Polo.
