1.4 8v AEX 1997 gearbox problems 3rd gear!!!!!!! PLZZZ!

hi ive started to have problems with my gearbox every time i shift the gear to 3rd it onli goes half into the 3rd gear not fully but it still shifts into 3rd and some times it dont go into 3rd at all as it will just drop into neutral but if i keep trying like 2-3 times den its fine. But some times it shifts into 2 3rd fine as they should! any 1 know why this is happin please i really all ur help! pleaseeeeeeeeee thanks shaun

how many miles (and owners?) has the gearbox seen? sounds like it's been thrashed and crashed a bit by someone.. there's no easy fix i don't think - i have the same car and mine's fine, never had a single flaw with my gearbox and i've just passed 94,400 miles mark. with the gearbox it's really all down to how you treat it, you can make one last upwards of 150k or kill it very quickly.. sorry i can't really be of much help, this doesn't sound like something you can just fix in a jiffy though

i had the same problem, but mine also did it in reverse.
i got told i needed a new gear box, but apparently there are cables in the gear box, i don't know what they need doing but i presume adjusting. its the like selector thing. probs not much help as i'm not a mechanic
but cables inside the gearbox - anyone else got anymore details on them?

its just over 95k and im the 2nd owner 1st was a lady owner i had it since 89k

if its the reverse gear then its fine u can get it adjusted i used 2 have the same problem after it was adjusted and oil change it was fine and very smooth.

how you sort the box??? mines started goin all wiered when the car gets warm! like it just dont want2 go in gear at all....

i havent solved it!!! it came back 2day what i think it is the gearbox mounth is broken cus wen im on 3rd gear i can feel the gear stick move up and down when accelerating a deccelerating.
