Coilovers

I'm seriously thinking about Coilovers now the audio is in for 2 reasons

1) The car seems a little lower at the back which in turn means I'm seeing a bit less of what's behind and a bit more of the road.

2) To make the car sit nicer and look nicer, especially as the wheels are the next thing on the cards.

I've been looking at KW but the Variant 2's are a ridiculous amount of money. Is there a great deal of difference between the Variant 1 and 2?

I know a few people have gone for Konigsports, what are they like?

Also, I'm guessing even with a 50mm drop the Xenons, Tracking and Camber would all have to be sorted?

Cheers guys.

I'm considering the same thing at the mo as mine really needs lowering! So i'll be loitering in this thread for some advice!

if you go for FKs get the Konigsports, the adjustable damping can be a godsend lol! don't forget the Silverline models which are less likely to corrode!
if the back of ur car is lower then the lights are likely to be off anyway Tom so u could set the coilies so that that the lights sit level again.
so really tracking and camber would be the only bits u'd need to get professionally sorted!
coilovers are definately the way to go, u will not regret it!!

It's not a great deal lower at the back Dan, but it's noticeable when driving.

Just want to be a bit lower to the ground as well, keep looking at the front splitter thinking "you should be sat lower"

yeah coilovers will sort that out mate!!

i've never adjusted the backs on mine but me and doug dropped the front back down 30mm in about 10 mins or so!
and the front dampers are adjusted by by putting a twisting screw top on the strut top and then turning to loosen or tighten!

So you'd say go for the Konigsports?

Also, what was the delivery time on them from Venom?

I see that you paind £484 delivered from Venom, how did you manage that

They're on their site at £439.14 (ex VAT, £515.99 with the VAT)

erm i think delivery time was about 3 weeks as they had to be ordered from Germany!
the website quoted £400 +vat for the 6L ibiza. i did notice it was gonna cost more for a polo gti for some reason?

so far i have had to problems with them seizing or corroding and the only real problem i've had is my wishbone bushes creaking when wet due to the extra strain they are under but thats it!

well worth the money!!

The Konigsports are a good choice, just remember to keep them oiled-up, to prevent corrosion.

There are other FK dealers, apart from Venom. There's Performance Solutions in Northampton and I believe that GSF now sell FK products. They should be able to match Venom's prices :D

Another option to consider is H&R coilovers. They're in the KW V1 price range, and should be as good. I believe that Josh used them in his GTI, and now uses them in his Fabia, also Moynas used them in his GTI. Also, there's Weitec to consider, which I think is related to KW.

How do the KW Variant 1's compare to the Konigsports and H&R?

I believe Alun is having the V1's fitted this weekend, so should be able to give you his comments shortly.

I also think silkyv has V2's on his gti, so look for some posts by him for an opinion.

Big Boys Toys used to do V1's for 699 FITTED, or 799 for V2's fitted, i am sure sure if they still offer such a geat deal, but it that is what you want, it might be worth enquiring. I can vouch for their professionalism.

Just a question as no-one has raised it, do you actually need coilovers? No offense, but you don't strike me as a person who will always be playing about with the ride heights etc. If the rear of the car is slightly lower at the moment, I would have thought the Eibach sportline springs (-50F/-30R) with some decent shocks would be an excellent decent to sort that out.

I'd rather get Coilies so I can raise and lower it if I want.

I wouldn't want to go for springs then decide that I want it lower once it's on, coilovers will just always gives me that option 8)

My Konigsports are great. Seriously reduces the bodyroll and improves the handling

The thing is though, the V2's are a fair bit more than the 1's from what I've seen.

Still let me know how you find the 1's and I'll go from there 8)
