Convince the Parents

Guys,
My parents just discovered my K&N Induction Kit, and went BALLISTIC.
In an ideal world, i should have told them.
But basically, i need some of you guys to explain what an "induction kit" actually is.
Like, what effect having one will have on power (bhp)....
effect on fuel consumption...
effect on VW warranty...
and insurance, but we've already discussed this, and ive told them we need to declare it...but thats another story.
I dont think i can bare to get rid of the induction kit, but my dad has threatened to sell the car unless i stop being doing stuff to the car.

To be honest explaining what the induction kit does for the car is probably not going to win your parents over but annoy them even more if they don't want you to do anything to the car and this is not the first time they've told you about it either.
As far as I'm aware they bought you the car and they paid for it to be repaired. Be damn lucky they bought you the car and have some respect from what they want.
I've been there. My mum bought my first 9n (and granted she now owns the one i have now too). She didn't want me to do anything to it either. Play by their books to be honest. Suggest things and bring them round to things slowly and stick to oem mods at first to keep them happy then slowly stop pushing the boundaries.
I still modify the Polo despite it's my mum's. She loves it and the looks she gets is hilarious.
Granted this all comes down to the type of people anyway and their opinions and views on modifying. My mum in my opinion is a damn cool lady and I'm amazed she encourages me at the best of times.
This is my own opinion and I don't want or mean to cause offence if it does but you are being disrespectful.

I agree, its always best to tell your parents

I've got away with most of the bits i have done to my car. My dad recently discovered my amp, speakers, new head unit, and fog lights all in the space of seven days - he moaned briefly but is cool with it now
Its a tough call choosing whether or not to tell them, but i've found in the long run it pays off

I'm not surprised they were annoyed - probably about the warranty - it'll void any engine problems I'd have thought.
take it off and drill the airbox in a discrete place if you want the sound. otherwise just replace it and tell them you've done it. they'll probably be pleased you removed it without them having to force you.

hehe no engine mods before warrenty ends.. thats my approach.
yeah as the peeps said above, if they dont like it, then take it off.

Yup certainly no engine mods before the warranty ends- from experience, i know that vw wont touch an engine that has been modified in any way

same position as me when i got my 9n 4 year ago. the rents didnt want me to do a thing to it.
but after a while they ease up especially if its to their taste. and you just do mod by mod, nice and tasteful.

i havent ever seen the need to have an induction kit. i drive a 1.2 not a hot hatch! the only thing you get from it is an attention seeking grunt which makes people think ''look at that boy racer''. a pointless mod in my eyes, you dont notice the extra 4 brake horse power it gives anyway.

M7 has a point - induction kits are often all grunt no performance. Maybe a slightly higher rev zone, but they do attract alot of attention - sometimes bad attention

Agree! IMO induction kits are pointless. They make a noise but suck in hot air too. Had one in my old car and it only made it slower. You may feel its more responsive, but its normally because your full throttling to make the noise
Performance Panel Filters are a different story though - they do help!

When I say 'they do help' not saying huge difference. A little but noticable difference in response is what I've noticed in all cars I've had them on.

a better air intake diameter and positioning would help, I had that on my old 6N and that helped a little with response and rev-happyness

I might change the panel filters on mine - agreed a better air intake can make a big difference. Its just choosing where to change it too and what not safely and effectively!
