Hello again, wonder if anyone can help me with what i'm sure is an easy problem to fix. i'm just wondering where the pipe from the air cleaner vacuum unit attaches to as my car didn't have a pipe connected & i've heard it might help me with my carb icing problem. To help, in the haynes manual its also called a air temperature control unit. theres a little flap inside which governs the amount of cold air going into the carb, this is done by vacuum, but from where

many thanks

There's a vacuum tube on the base of the carb, almost directly underneath the air filter temp sensor

Thanks for your help hypojam but i think i didn't explain very well

ops
At the end of the air filter housing there is a air temp sensor which cold air travels to the carb but there is a flap which governs this, the flap is operated by a pipe which is attached, but where the other end goes i don't know

all the other pipes are attached i.e to the bottom of the carb and to the dizzy advance/retard. Thanks again for your help.

do you mean the big flexi hose from the aircleaner to the exh manifold?

No it just a small rubber pipe about 3-4mm in diameter. it comes off the top of the air cleaner above the large metallic flexihose.

Depends on the car.
If we're talking about the very, very slim peice of hose that comes off the top of the air intake, it either goes to the carb (Solex carb) or the vacuum unit on the distributor (pierberg carb)

The tube that goes from the hot air flap vacuum unit goes to the underneath of the filter housing
There's 2 vacuum connections underneath the air filter housing, left one goes too hot air flap. The right one goes to vacuum connection on base of the carb
There's also another vacuum connection from the carb that goes to the vacuum advance on the dizzy but its unrelated to what your asking.
