Father in law just bought at auctions 78/79 T reg 1 owner 32k miles very good nick mk1 polo GLS in silver.
1st glance needs n/s wing chrome grill and a general tart up,front wing top side a bit of putty and a spot of rust on windscreen seal, engine sounds sweet and drives well. ,am thinking of buying for self to do up and use as every day car for work 80 miles a week.
He paid £275 whats a sensible offer and what is it going to be like for reliability?Think she`s a 1098cc.

She'll be as reliable as she's been driven & treated, I think you could very quickly get rid of her for £500-£600, more if you have FSH.

For what little effort is involved I would get the car yourself and wet & dry the rust, fill it, Ku-Rust it & keep it yourself.

If it's a genuine 32K on the clock it will be a beautiful car to drive, personally i'd sort out the rust, give the carb a clean, if you don't know when the last cambelt was done do that - maybe treat her to a service. - You definately won't go wrong.

My 895cc got driven 250 miles a week without a hickup (fairly hard driving for that tiny engine on quick and terribly surfaced North Yorkshires roads too!)

If you are going to use it for a daily, and you get it cheap, spend that extra bit getting a cambelt done for peace of mind - if its not been serviced frequently, the belt could have perished and nobody noticed because its low mileage.

As for what its worth. If it has the metal/chrome bumpers... lots! If they're plastic, probably what Wildchild says.
