anybody seen these up close - good preice for wheels and tyres, and easier than a refurb, just depends if they look OK in the metal so to speak...

I dont think they'd look great up close. You can see the bolts look a little small (they serve no purpose cos they are fake splitties) and the you can also see the gap where the real outer would join the centre looks a bit fakey. I imagine these are 1 peice rims. Bear in mind you are looking a at small photos, in real life the poor quality bits would look even worse.

There's many genuine second hand RXII's floating about on ebay. I'd buy the real thing, or if you can't be bothered refurbing then go for a totally different wheel.

Everyone that owns a polo GTi would be able to spot fake RXII's a mile off

I think the owners name was Richard Harper, or my memory may not serve me so well? All I do remember is that they definately fit with 280mm disks.

I take it back, they look not bad at all, quite clean and OEM looking.

Still not the real thing though and you do lose future customisability of colour coded centres. But they do look alright, if you are not bothered by the above.

you dont lose colour coding ability at all - they can just mask of the lip.

I'd much rather refurb my existing rims, but just need to find something to put on for the few weeks it'll take to refurb them

Masking bits off just leaves a messy egde, I wouldn't do it with my rims.

If the wheels are just a for a few weeks why not go for G60 steelies - much cheaper and have a good resale value

dont want shell out for steelies, then pay for tyres to be swapped, then repeat the process again a few weeks later, waste of money. Id rather pick up a s**t set of anything, sit the car on those for a couple of weeks, send the wheels away to be sorted whilst I take a few weeks in the sun somewhere hot - then come back to a shiny set of refurbed rims

one thing to look out for is on the fake bolts, as time goes by the finish on them will start to crack.

with the originals you can remove the bolts and just replace em with new ones, however with the replicas expect the paint/finish on the bolts to start cracking off as time passes by.

they do look good new but i dont think they can stand the test of time.

When I bought my gti it came with two reals and two fakes. If you put them next to each other the only visable differance i the centre caps and bolt heads. They're VERY good. The plus point about them is that the et is 35, as opposed to 45 of the genuine's. You can colour code the centres quite easily by masking up the lip, there's a very defined groove which would help lots.

i used to have these exact reps on my mk4, if im not mistaken they're 7x15 where as the original ones are 6.5x15 they deffo looked a lot phatter, and the lip is slightly wider aswell

yuck, seriously not my cup of tea.
be patient they always pop up on ebay and steelies are definately the way to go if you already have a set and are just wanting some spare wheels while you restore.
plus you can keep them and use them as winter wheels.
