convert from longlife service to normal?

My car is currently on the longlife service interval, but I want to be able to change the oil myself and so ideally want it back to the normal service interval because only a dealer/vagcom can reset the longlife interval correctly.

The indicator is coming on for a service, and when I reset it it only seems to push it back another 1,000 miles. The service isn't due - it was done 14 months ago and only 3,000 miles has been done since then.

I don't want this happening all the time, so I'd like to covert it back to the standard 10k mile interval.

Any ideas if this can be done / how?

If I remember right, if you use more than 1 litre of none long life oil then it detects this and puts you back onto the normal servicing.

If you reset the service indicator yourself i think it should switch back over, as you said only a dealer/vagcom can do it.

ok cool.

I've had a bit of bother with it - the indicator was on originally when I got it, so I said to the dealer to reset it or get it serviced before I bought it.

So he said he'd done this but that was clearly just the method in the book. sigh.

I'd rather have it back to the short intervals especially if I chip it - every 6 months / 10k will be the routine. plus I should be able to do it myself if I can figure a way of removing the undertray easily!

I'll put some normal oil in it from now on then.

make sure the oil is still a PD specific one, its quite expensive.

yeah cheers for the heads up - I had a PD Passat as my last car so know about the oil, in fact I've still got about 2 litres of it in the garage 8)
