UNIVERSITY?!?!?!

well im finishing my A-levels and up untill now had been really looking forward to going off to university [kent] and doing interior architecture. Im pretty sick of all my mates, my family does my nut, as does living at home, my town is chavvy and s**t and im sick of all the little rudeboys surrounding my car every time i park at tesco!

I want to move out and just sod off to uni to start over more than anything!
However, lately i just really cannot be arsed with education anymore! The thaught of another three years or silly tests, bull sh it knowlage that youll never need and boring lectures makes me want to die!

Ive been doing graphic design for 4 years at school and am ace at doing vinyl graphics, design and even a bit of the old window tinting. Also been doing business studies (applied) for the last 2 years, and my dad runs a succesfull business. The prospect of dropping education and setting up my own business using the money that wld of been spent on uni is so damn tempting, with the skills i have and a bit of practise, i could easily set up a small graphic design company. aggh its so tempting! But do i really want to make stickers and play on photoshop all my life?

Gahh someone help whos been through it and done it all before!

I don't know if this is going to help at all, but I went to uni, studyed Computer Animation, got sick of it before I'd finished the course and now work in a job that has nothing to do with my degree. Oh and I have 12 grand of student loan to pay back.

I'd say think long and hard and only go to uni if its what you really really want.

I totally agree!

Back in 2005, I decided to do a degree in Business Studies at the University of Chichester (Previously University College Chichester). In April 2006, I dropped out, as I had enough of the course, and I grew bored of what I was studying. I had lost all passion for the subject, and I didn't want to continue.

Maybe if I gave myself some more time to consider the importance of the matter, I wouldn't be in my current situation.

However, the social side was excellent, I had so much fun meeting new people and getting blotto all the time, it was well worth it, even though I did it for a year and now am £3801.80 in debt.

Have you got the money to set up your own business? its not like you can just ask the govt for the student loan money to use for it....

If you want to get away from it all and make new life-long friends its the place to go, but you obviously have to want to do the course aswell, because it is far to easy not to go to lectures and stuff.

You could always take a year out, and as long as you do something mildy productive you can easily get into uni next year...

Personally id go, you can always drop out, you may lose a bit of cash in doing so but lets face it its not exactly the hardest thing to pay off you gotta earn over 15 grand and even then they are hardly loan sharks...they are taking £7 a month off of me....not something im losing any sleep over...

Uni was the best time i ever, ever had and i made friends with the best people!

hmmmm. i do have the money to set up my own business ive inherited a fair bit of my late grandparents, plus the folks have a fair bit stashed up. i have no problem at all with hard work if i enjoy it and i can see why i'm doing it. Its all the meaningless crap like "history of architecture" that i can't stand. I think i'll go and give it a shot, like you said its not so much to lose and if its that bad i'll just drop out.

lol thanks guys. :D

My god, sounds like me this time 2 years ago...

It was playing my mind for 6 months solid, do i???? don't i????
I did all my applications, everything to get into uni doing IT.

Money put me off a bit, but what was worse, was being without money, as i couldn't of done as many hours as i did when i was at college.

I decided to sod uni, got lucky and walked straight out of college into an IT Assistant job. My qualifications went even looked at! it was what i spoke to them about in the interview that count!

Now, nearly 2 years on... I have been IT Manager for 10 Months, i say i hate my job, but that's only because i have not had a holiday for 7 months and hours can be long with the 24hr call out. I have a good team running, the best assistant money can buy! jobs get done and its an interesting job.

That's just my story... Like i tel most people, i think i was one of them lucky people that were just in the right place at the right time...

I am now glad i made the decision i did and i am now also looking to start my own IT business.. Who knows what will happen next! lol

Whatever you do, talk to your family, dont follow your friends just because they are going and most importantly, make sure you will be happy!

It's bloody stressful. This week I have a 3000 page report for Thursday, a coursework for Friday which I know nothing about, followed by one crappy week off to prepare for 3 exams!

i'd say do it if you have an interest in the subject - sure there are certain modules that are boring, but so long as you like the subject as a whole you will be fine - i loved uni - would love to do it again, but i dont think my liver could cope. Good luck to you with whatever you decide to do.

I'd think about it like bryony said, I almost went to kent uni..nice place...nice and quiet...not really the full on student life though living in one on campus club (the venue) but my bro went there and got a good degree & is now working for framestore.

I on the other hand ended up in bournemouth next to sunny beaches and a great night life...I've had a wicked 3 years holiday with some work thrown in but at the end of the day I don't know how much I will use my degree nor justify the massive debt i'm in.

But I have had alot of fun!

3000 words is fairly standard, you wait till you have your 15,000 word dissertation to write
