Hi and welcome,
Is the Polo to become your new 1st car?

I want the polo to be a real wolf in sheeps clothing.

My main aim is my mates Fiesta ST running 164Bhp

If I can be as quick as that I'm happy lol

Hiya

Your cupra looks nice, sadly I can't say the same for the corsa - that kind of modifying is not my cup of tea at all!

Also just so you know, you're highly unlikely to get anything like 160+ bhp out of the polo gti, the gearbox has trouble with the standard power so its not worth pushing it too far. I've heard of people with 140ish but not much higher.

Thanks mate.

Cupra R going over next couple weeks (deposit taken). Sad to see it go but House needed lol

The Corsa was a project really whilst young at 17 lol.Wouldnt do it again but I enjoyed the fun building her.

Ye i had this same feeling about the Polo, my intention is to make the handleing as best poss and do it that way. I have drove the ST and its a nice car but not best handleing TBH.

Slammed, tight suspension + Grip + running 130-140BHP I'll be happy I think

Wouldn't there be serious problems with the gearbox doing that?

I think theres a supercharged lupo but I don't remember having seen a polo.

Sound like an idea to me.

TBH tho not sure how much money want to/be able to throw at it for a while. in long run could look at Leon 180 lump??? is it a common/possible conversion??

I'll be reading up on a lot of stuff over the next few weeks lol

Its not hugely common, but the 1.8T has been has certainly been done a few times into the mk5....so you know it is possible. If you gain the knowledge on how to fit it yourself then that would be a huge help. Companies ask about 7 grand to fit the 1.8 turbo into the mk4/5.

As for the GTI, to go decent power, you would need to ensure the gearbox could handle it and was in good condition....upgrade most parts etc. But for every day driving, if the box was nursed it would probs be fine.

The engine isn't hugely tuneable. Your best bet is probably weight loss. But would think you could push 160+ with the likes of full system exhuast with 4-2-1 manifold(decat aswel), decent cold air feed induction system, port and polished, upgraded camshift, chipped and remapped will see you very healthy.....but speaking quite alot of money there now!

Welcome along!

Dee-vub is right, a strict weight loss program and some shiny suspension upgrades (coilovers, strut braces, upgraded anti-roll bars etc) will work wonders.

As for the gearbox, I know everyone thinks they are cursed but as long as you don't abuse it it will be OK. Mine is! *touch wood*

Cheers 8)

thanks for the reply guys,

Very imformative. I think I'll like it here lol

If I do go 1.8T route I would have one of my mates help fit it.
It's not something I could afford to do soon anyway.

well, fingers crossed I have a couple to look at at the moment.

As for 'common errors/problems' what should I look for or especially ask when buying?
gearbox?
pedal box?
clutch?
water pump?
etc......?

Are you meaning with the GTI with regards to common probs, or the 1.8T?
