Hi guys, im not quite sure what to do....

I'm quite tempted to change my car, but if i do i will have less money to spend each month, it will cost more to run and im stuck with another car loan.


so the options are

Keep the Polo - 39000, just had the cam belt done and is serviced more than is recomended so runs very smooth, but with the motorway travel its clocking up some miles and is starting to get abit rough round the edges, ie stone chips, foglight cracked the other day, scratch hear and there and the wheels need re doing but i haven't got the time. and the interior is getting tatty.

Buy An R32 - its the only car i would change to at the moment but you have got the down sides to it, drinks fuel! tyres are expensive, servicing is "rather steep" and the insurance is more than twice what im paying now, then you've got the extra loan and i've then got to sell mine.

it makes a really nice noise, goes fast and is a head turner.


What would you guys do? its an extra £90 per week before putting petrol in it.

My personal opinion Andy, is that if you have to ask yourself what you want to do then you don't 100% want/can afford to do it.

I was going to get a nice expensive car next but it was the loan that put me off, instead I'm now going to save for an R32 and either pay for it outright or borrow a small amount.

I think that's what you'd be better off doing, it may take longer that way but you'll have more money left for the servicing etc.

yea but my dad is selling his in a couple of months and its only got 9K on the clock and i know its been really well looked after.

In my experiance

you would get used to the power after 2 -3 days max then not know any differance from the gti unless your racing big powerfull cars on your way to work to get your kicks .

How much does my driving licence mean lots of speed cams going up all over the place all the time !

where all screwed cams and fuel be honest with yourself it wont get cheaper !

Then go OOOPS this is costin me a fortune in fuel and insurance and loan and its not makin me that much happier than my last car ive got no life becouse of a car Hhhmmm

(wakes up the next mornin) someones put a lovely scratch right down the side of my nice fast -ish expensive R32 (gutted unless you have a nice garage to tuck it away in the night )

Sorry I see the other side of this, I love my polo gti to bits, its a great car, good looker & nice and nippy but at the end of the day my mk4 R32 will be out there & getting bought after uni, why?

Because the R32 is a step up in my eyes in all respects, to me its better looking, faster, got more cred...and at the end of the day those are the three reasons you buy a car, on top of that the thing will probably be more reliable! Buy it, the gti will always be a fond memory but when you are crusing in a lush golf with envious looks and plant your foot to find a 3.2 litre engine kicking you in the backside you won't regret it!

Mk4 R32 or Mk5 Golf GTI (white!) are serious contenders for my next car in a few years from now. Other contenders - Alfa GTV, Mk7 Polo GTI, Mk6 GT/Mk7 1.9TDI 130 (remapped), Seat Ibiza Cupra R (TDI)...

you can pick up an R32 for around 10-11k in good nick with around 50k on the clock! bargain

Im thinking about getting rid of my GTi only had it since begining of Feb but its starting to cost me money and not in a good way !

right so i have the opinions of the older and younger members now, i've done allot of work on the gti in recent months (top mounts, gear box problems, cam belt and tenshioner change, tyres, windscreen, and the front end needs sorting out because of the stone chips) so in the last month i've spent £700 and its needs another £1000 spent on it to get it really nice again.

Thats a really good idea, £90 extra a week is a lot of cash before petrol/servicing!

I've been in one before, it was the top of the range one - VVT 190. Very quick, nice interior. The VVT is just toyota's incarnation of Honda's VTEC - a technology that I rate very highly. These engines are bulletproof and the car's are mechanically sound. I think the VVT 190 is a bit more rare, but the 140bhp standard VVt should also be alright. The only downside with the mk7 celica is (my opinion) that they look a bit girly. Still, good mpg and performance of a much bigger engine. Def worth a test drive

Yea I can't decide on if I should sell mine or keep it at the moment either!

I do love the polo and if I do keep it I'v got big plans for it but I don't know if I can take the stress of worrying if somethings gonna go wrong!
