hey guys, bit of a random one..
litterally over night, my front windscreen wipers have stopped working. the rear one still works fine. and the washer jets work.
ive checked the fuse and thats fine and ive made sure there not stuck to the screen etc...
cant work it out.. they were working fina a couple of days ago when i last used them?
any ideas??

Check the relay could be the problem

if the relay needs relacing then would the rear wiper still be working?

This is a really odd one.
Its odd that its not a fuse or a relay. For something to just stop would suggest either a bad wire, relay or a fuse. Have you checked to see if the relay and/or fuse are burnt out?
Perhaps the contact in the wiper selector arm on the steering wheel has died
EDIT: As for the relay, i would think the rear wiper is on a seperate part, as it operates seperately to the front wipers

hmm well just had a good look at the relays, they all look good.
when i turn the wipers on the relay clicks but no movement??

Ahh the clicks may suggest a blown relay. This happened on my dads old Transporter T25 or the hazard warning lights. The relay just has a clicking fit, but didnt work

Replaced it, and all is good
A new relay is like a fiver or so.

wel.. thought id pop in to my local dealer for a relay..
explained the problem and they all said it sounded like the symptoms of a relay.. so.. £25!!!!!!! later i had my new relay
fitted it in the dealer car park and guess what? didnt work!
i was livid...
went back inside and guess what?? no refunds on electrical parts..
apparently because its electrical and ive put it into my car it could be damaged????!!!!
well i asked them what i should do next and if anyone could look at it seeing as i couldnt have my money back.
so.. an unenthusiastic 'technician' came and had a look didnt have a clue and suggested the linkage could have seized and that id have to take the wipers/scuttle etc off.
got home after a journey in the rain with no wipers, which was fun..
put the car in the garage and popped the bonnet.. removed the wipers, seal, scuttle and gave all the linkage points a spray of wd40 they werent budging finall got them all loose and greased them up, replaced everything and hey it works! and i got a spare relay..
anyone need one? ill do you a deal..
so yeah thanks for nothing vw, diagnosing a problem selling me the 'solution' then not letting me return it.. not impressed

Had the same happen to me, helpful guide to a complete newbie like me.
Looking more like its the wiper motor, off to the scrappy.
