When I did this on my Golf I bought the blank (keyholeless) covers from a rear door of a 5 door car, along with the metal blanking barrel and a little titanium disk thing to cover the hole inside.

Is this exactly the same process with the 9N?

Just checking before I call the dealer and try and explain what parts I want!

hey mate
these are what you want :

3B4 839 879A GRU (the 'cap')
3B4 839 167 (button without lock)

check with your dealer though, its been a few years since i did this

oops wait, these part numbers may be for left hand drive. for those who drive on the wrong side The cap number may be different for you, please check with your dealer.

Ok, although I think that they are the same part anyway just rotated around to fit both sides!?

They are the same part for both sides.

I did this mod a couple of years ago and managed to dig out the receipt from VAG Parts:
3B4 839 879A GRU - Cap for handle
1K4 839 167 - Dummy barrel

Incidentally there is a great guide here which I followed and had no problems.

Good work mate. I'll check out that link a little later on.

I remember dropping a part of the mech into the door whe I did it on my golf which was a KNIGHTMARE to sort out!

When undoing the screw in the door be extremely careful it doesn't come all the way out and drop down into the door. I just slowly turned it and kept trying the handle until the lock came loose.

Only downside to this mod is when your batteries run out, happened to me but luckily when it was open so I could get my spare fob. Crawling through the boot could get you some strange looks!

Yeah, on my golf something just fell off off the mechansim as I was doing it... and I was being very careful with the screw! Took me ages of fiddling trying to learn where it came from and fit it back into the correct place.
