Fitting Eibach Spring to 6n2 GTi

Hi Guys,

I have purchased some Eibach sportline springs (collies planned for later) and want to have a go at fitting myself (should be ok I think)

I just wanted some advance advice if possible

Any special tools needed? and advice (need to know stuff)?

Any DIY Guides/pictures would be great if possible

Can people add to the need to do list at all:

Jack it up + axle stands
Take wheels off
Take castle nuts off
remove disc and caliper
.
.
.
.
.

na its a piece of p***, the only special bit of kit you need are spring compressors to get the front springs off/on, you can do the rears by hand.

i think the hardest part of the whole process is getting the plastic domed cap back over the suspenstion top nut, you'll find out what i mean when you get there :lol:

what the castle nuts like on polos? solid?

you dont need to remove the discs are calipers to change the springs, u can get a set of compressors from halfords ,about £20. they black caps are a nightmare i just ripped them off by puting a screwdriver through them and pulling like f==k and after a few swear words they are off. get a can of wd40 also just incase your nuts have seized (excuse the phrase) :lol:

cant think of anything else you need to change the springs but remeber once you have changed them you will need to get the camber and tracking done asap as your wheels will be at a strange angle and your tyres will wear like s==t

yea me and my dad changed mine in a couple of hours, we did have a seized nut on the back but we heated it up with the gas welder and it came off no probs

ok guys i'll have a go on friday on my day off - start nice and early just in case lol

How much for the camber and tracking? is it just the local tyre place that can do it?

They might be able to, I used a place that has the proper VW 4 wheel laser alignment machine.

4 wheel laser alignment is what you want.

Was a place called Automotive Performance Services (http://www.autops.co.uk/)

Cost me £50 because the bloke didn't have any change (would have been about £52) they're real friendly though and offer cups of tea while you wait :D

I have lowered 3 cars (Not needing Camber & tracking adjustment). Personally I don't think its worth lowering it yourself for the time effort and hassle your going have. After fitting the springs yourself your still going to need the Camber & tracking adjustment done. Why not get the whole lot done for £100 by a proffessional with all the tools for the job.

ye but all that hassle is part of the enjoyment 8)

you learn from experience and enjoy doing it - I have always done my own stuff to cars - from fitting speakers and amps etc to fitting FMIC and even engine swap.

its just nice to have a little bit of advance notice of any difficult parts thats all

Theres nothing like getting your overalls on - jacking car up - and spending 10 hrs with your head under a bonnet/in wheel arch etc.... :lol:

it all means that little bit more when you have experienced the difficult parts (not only taking about lowering BTW)

yea i never put my car in to the garage unless its unavoidable.

my dad has all the tools under the sun so thats never a problem. i got my tracking and camber done at my local garage for a tenner, you only need the front wheels done on mk5s

It oppsite Alexander Stadium they charge £45, oh a word of warning if your 70mm or lower be prepared for the guy to start swearing and shouting at the nuts :twisted:
