1.4 TDI loss of power

Hey guys,

On my way home tonight my car lost most of its power:( It wouldn't go above 2K RPM in fifth, even with my foot flat to the floor. No lights on the dash at all.

Took it to a VW dealer on the way home on the off chance they might be able to help. The guy plugged in the fault reader and he said it was something to do with the boost pressure??

They've taken it in as an "emergency", gonna get the service and MOT done at the same time, hope whatever it is it'll be covered by warranty!

Anybody got any ideas what it could be??

One of the guys suggested it could be a split in the pipe leading to the turbo??

Pipe might have come off the turbo - but i know nothing about engines

Could well be the turbo, that happened to my brothers Golf TDi, the revs wouldn't go up no matter what gear he was in or how hard he put his foot down.

He ended up needing a new turbo though.

Normally a charge pipe off or split will give you an error code and a check light?
If the turbo failed in any way you would have had lots of smoke, either black or grey?

I hope they get it sorted as quickly as possible and as cheaply as they can.

Just thought I'd give you guys an update, got a call from VW today and they haven't been able to recreate the fault :(

There head tech guy has taken the car home with him tonight to try and see if he can make it do it again.

What happens if they can't recreate it??

Surely if the the fault they found to begin with must mean something must be wrong??

On the plus side it passed its first MOT :)

Aye but if they can't find it they wont really do much. I don't know whether this is because they know you wont pay for it as it'll be warranty and with warranty they have to prove there was actually something wrong with it.

My 1.2 had a problem that it just kept loosing power. I believe they probably had it for 2 seperate weeks and still failed to find the fault.

Sadly I don't know if they ever did find the fault as I got really peed off with it and traded it in.

Sounds like another case of VW not being able to find a fault - conveniently!

ask them if the original fault stored mentioned negative boost deviation ?(or possibly possitive boost deviation)

Got the car back today! They were unable to find a fault so there's not much I can do about that.

2nd Long life service, brake fluid change and MOT came to a grand total of £522.96 :(

Now I know why they're called stealers!!!!

Another update
