Hi guys,

Can any1 ponit me in the right direction of removing rear wiper on MK5 GTi please?

Want tailgate smoother but not for a while. Also recommended boot solarnoids (sp) would be great

It's pretty easy, I've done it loads of times on my car.

Unscrew the 2 torx screws in the handle recesses in the plastic trim panel on the tailgate.

Carefully (CAREFULLY) go around unclipping the clips on the trim panel. You don't want to break any clips here.

Take off the panel and put it somewhere safe.

Unplug the electrical connector on the wiper motor. And then pull off the water pipe from the motor.

Close the boot and pull off the wiper cover (the thing covering the rear washer.

Then get a spanner/ratchet/whatever and undo the bolt on the wiper.

Pop the wiper off (it should come off relatively easily).

Open the boot, and have a look at the fixings for the motor. Undo the 3 nuts on the motor, and it should come out easily.

Remove the rubber grommet on the glass.

You should have prepared a wiper blank. You can get a proper one, made by cult society (Mk4 golf ones fit too) or go down to halfords and get a rubber grommet that fits the hole (they do packs of different sizes).

Seal the grommet up with some silicone sealant or you can bodge it with a bit of duct tape on the back of the grommet.

I used some zip ties to bung off the water pipe. Just don't press the button for the rear wash

You should be able to disconnect the pipe at the motor, attatched to the washer bottle I think. You might even be able to disconnect the wires that power the pump for the rear [I'm thinking one pump but 2 sets of wires].

Or you can use a small screw with silicone on threads just bigger than inside diameter of washer pipe and screw it in till stops..

Job done washer pipe sealed if giving a while for silicone to set, thats what i did on mine

And to refit washer pipe you can be rough and just cut washer pipe past end of screw if you have enough left to reach wiper motor once you've just done it or do it the easy way by unscrewing screw and pop pipe back on wiper motor .

I unscrewed the screw on my washer pipe when i was selling car and tried to fit washer pipe to motor assembly again, but it was a b***h as the pipe is so hard a plastic.

So blanked it off with screw again and sold wiper motor on e bay


P.s i used a grommet from halfords that was in a pack with various sized ones with silicone round it unside glass and on back of grommet lip/face bit that touches outside glass.

Heh heh, I just shoved the grommet in the hole. No sealant or anything. Never even occured to me. Might have to have a check later and revise that decision. The best way to block the washer pipe has to be fold it back on its self (ie crimp) and tape it up!

I block up my washer pipe with blue tack

Shall be doing this mod this weekend. I have ordered a glass (not sure what you call it) to plug the gap left by the rear wiper, shall get some silicone and seal the outside and plug it straight in there, will post a pic when its done.

Removed the rear wiper yesterday and put on the glass wiper blank. See pic below.

Looks great where did you get the grass wiper blank from??
