From memory it means "Inspection service" which is the minor oil change one.

It should say if the owners manual if you have it handy.

Just reset it, Its already programmed in the cars computer to display it at set intervals regardless if you have just had a oil change or not

inspection services on most cars means that change oil and filter, air filter, plugs, pollen filter, as well as checking things that would be on a normal oil services such as checking the brakes, tyres, lights etc.

Because the only people I trust to look under the bonnet are VW or a VAG specialist

Nail on head there mate, there just there to advise, i mean if you got a service one day, and the thing came on the next, would you go and get another service ? I think not !

Why ? Surely a good local garage has the same ability to wrk on any car ? also your more likely to have a wee lad rag your car in a dealer as there still training, where as if you have a good local garage, there more likely to be older and tend not to rag cars about, in my view you still get your service book stamped regardless of what garage and still has a FSH ! Dont matter if its from VW or not when selling !
