HID Headlight Conversion on a 9N

Has anyone done this conversion, if so, is it difficult, and more importantly will it draw attention from the boys in blue?

i see VAG-PARTS are doing kits, and i think it would be much better light than the aftermarket "blue" light kits, which i know to be not liked by the Boys in Blue

it looks tight under my bonnet, so i would think it would have to be like the Golf shown, and total stripdown of bumper to hide Units in there?

your thoughts would be appreciated, as i don't wanna spend almost £400 to then find that the lught is much the same as a £60 PIAA Halogen bulb :)

theres a couple of people on here that have bought a kit from Martyn. The only problem *i think* is getting the front bumper off if you have washer jets.

Mole or Scorpio1 will be able to answer better for you.

The light output from HIDs is AMAZING, there's no way £60 Halogens can match them!

Although they are technically illegal without being self levelling and cleaning, the old bill won't touch you for them.

You'd need to mount the ballasts behind the bumper on yours I would have thought. I cable tied mine, one by the battery box, and the other on the other side somewhere. Scorpios went behind the bumper which was a pain to get off 'cos of the washer jets, but we've sussed it out now!

Put it this way, the PIAA bulb is good for a normal set-up and better than stock, the problem is the bulb won't last too long, and are 80 watts to 110, which can make the wire hot etc. The output of xenon light is 35 watt for double the brightness and its hardly warm to touch.

Also, xenon bulbs will last at LEAST 3000 hours which is a lot!

There is a reason why bulbs don't cost a lot, and 'proper' xenon light is more expensive :P Simply because NO normal halogen bulbs can match that of a 'real' xenon bulb with the ballasts to fire them up.

I will say this though, if you do the HID conversion, you will need to upgrade your main beam bulbs and sidelights or they will be too dull and yellow in comparison.
