Polo 1.4 16v Overheating

I have a 1997 1.4 Polo 16v. I have a problem where it overheats after it has been running for a while. It warms up as normal and gets to 90 degrees then after say half hour or so driving starts to creep up. The only way of controlling it is to put on the heating. And it goes back down to 90 again. This gets quite annoying and in the summer is very warm in the car. The car drives great other than this problem but need o get it sorted asap.

Any help and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Dave

theres a small part inside the plastic thermostat housing that likes breaking on these,,,check it out.If so its just a new housing.

No it hasn't had a new water pump. It it a simple job to do replacing the housing for thermostat?

My 16 valve was getting hot lately, and it needed a new thermostat. Better to be careful, as you do not want to heat up the engine and cause damage.

I had this problem last summer, my thermostat went.

But a different problem this time round. My car stays running at 90degrees but my overheat sensor light keeps flashing up on the dash. Any suggestions on the likely problem? :(
