I wondered what's the lowest speed anyone's been caught at and given an sp30? driving a mate home from work today I was distracted and my speed went up to ~33-35mph in front of a traffic van....

First week of driving i got an sp30 for 40mph in a 30, third week of driving another sp30 for 35 in a 30. Then they took my licence. Got it back 3 months later, crashed into a house. banned for 3 months. Got licence back, ran over an old lady (blind b*tch) while parallel parking. CD10 and 2 week ban. Its nearly all off my licence now, so insurance may be cheaper in a couple years time.
I know its not quite what you asked, but thought it would cheer a few people up!

bloody hell!
I'm a bit annoyed, I'm usually careful in 30's, just chatting away to my mate and didn't bother looking 200m up the road.

Wow, that's an amazing list of traffic offenses. How long did it take to accumulate all that?

Somewhere around 215 days if you do the math from vdubit's post?

Alright Dave, if the speed you posted was from the speedo you may be ok.
Going from what my dad's mate told us when he was on the camera vans I'm pretty sure it's either 34 or 35 they usually do you.
Hope you've been lucky

I think it depends where you live as well. One of my mangers got done the other week for 32 in a 30 but they were pulled over not one of the vans.

Have a look on your local "Safety Camera" website, they sometimes have the details on there of what speeds they issue tickets at.
The general rule I've heard is 10% plus 1mph, to take into account speedometer error as the minimum. So in a 30 zone that would be 34mph before they issue.

people in the Birmingham area must be getting shafted then, as both my aunt and uncle have been done for doing 32 in a 30. issued tickets/fine and points.
my uncle was ticketed in his truck aswell (25tonne artic ) done for speeding, ironically he has never been done in his car drives it hard very hard. Seat Ibiza cupra deisl with a remap.

if the speedo gun ahsnt been recallibrated recently then it can be as much as 15mph out!
TV told me that i think...
If meory serves theyre only good for 15 readings then they need recalibrating, so if you ask the nice policemen when it was last recalibrated and he doesnt know you allegedly have a strong case against him.

The 10% plus 1 is just a general rule I've heard. Some Police Forces have a zero tolerance approach with the argument that as 30 is the limit, you should be below it.
