Hey guys,

just been offered some alloys for £150, they're not in great condition (curbing) but for what they are, its not a bad price...i didnt think so anyway... . They where taken from a MK 4 Golf, 4 Motion, 1998 Model.

225/45/17, 7.5 “ X 17, offset 35,

will these fit my 9N? i know the stud pattern of the MkIV Golf was 5x100, same as the 9N, but im not sure on other things, like tyre size etc...

Basically, if these wont fit, what tyres will i need to get?

just to add, this is a pic of the best one of the alloys, the others are slightly more crubed, if i can get away with keeping these tyres id be really happy, it turns out they're all brand new Toyos. with about 9" of tread.

think those wheels should fit but the tyres will rub like hell, i had those on the tt comps when i got them, had to get 205/40 17's...... and 9" of tread u mean 9mm?

yeh 9mm, so will the car be undriveable on these 225s? how much will a new set of 205/40/17s cost me? budget ones of course?

and will i be able to get any size of tyres, like say i went for the 205/40/17s, then will they fit the 7.5J wheels?

I had 17" FR alloys from a Leon on my ibiza, I know it isnt a polo but it's pretty much the same.

They had 225 tyres on there and would rub like hell when on full lock or the slightest of bumps. If I were you I'd change to 205/40/17s. They dont rub at all. I paid £59 a corner for budget tyres so expect to pay about £240? And also ask to keep the old tyres as you can sell them on if they're brand new!

yeh, i was wondering, could i keep the 225s on the rear, and just buy 205s for the fronts? or will they still rub?

but, cheers, if that fails, ill just buy a new lot of 205/40/17s, got quoted £58 for some Kumho ones...might go for it and sell the other tyres.

do people sell tyres alone on ebay?

With the 225s on the back they would still scrape over bumps on the ibiza so I would change them if I were you mate, you'd be better off selling your tyres and putting the right ones on there, but it's up to you I haven't put 17s on a polo before so I'm not 100% sure.

i got budget tyres for £35 each but you might get away with 225 but you will have to take it very slow everywhere which will p*** you off so i would change them for 205,40's thats what i have and they dont rub at all,apart from that the wheels will fit fine

please don't buy budget tyres.

if you can sell those tyres, then put the money into better 205x40x17's then do that.

every time you lock up or understeer at a corner when you least expect it, you'll wish you'd spent the extra cash on better tyres. trust me, I've done it before but sometimes it's tough to get the extra cash together.

Also i havent lowered my car so they shouldnt rub should they?

i appreciate that David, but, as you said, its hard to get cash together sometimes...

Alas, i shall have to go slightly budget,

I collect the alloys from Guildford today, then depending on my financial situation, should be getting the 205s this week. £49/tyre inc. VAT and fitting.

Thats a wicked number plate mate. Toyo proxies are only bout £60 - £70 a corner fitted.

So are they really good? The tyres the alloys have on them at the moment are Toyo Proxies.

What benefits would i see from those, over Budgets?

ohh, and thanks, im really pleased with the plate! should have got German ones though...
